Made By A Fabricista: Vacation Vibes

We will be traveling to the Caribbean for Spring Break this year, so I started thinking about what I wanted to take with me that would be easy to wear, but also light and breezy. Personally, I love wearing linen because it looks so luxe while still being really comfortable. Since coordinated sets are still on trend this year, I thought it would be fun to create some pieces that I could mix and match for a relaxed vacation mini-wardrobe. (I just need to remember to pack my travel iron!)

I went through all of my patterns and came up with five different patterns that I knew would would coordinate well with each other, and that would work well with linen. I wasn’t surprised when all the patterns I chose came from Pattern Emporium. Their whole aesthetic is clothing that is on trend, easy to wear and comfortable.

For my first set, I used the Lightweight Yarn-Dyed Chambray Linen in Soft Oat. This fabric is so incredibly soft and airy.

I used the Rise & Shine top in the cropped length with the Vacation Vibes pants, which I shortened a bit to make a capri style pant. I love the high waist design of the pants and the in-seam hidden pockets!

For my second set, I used the 100% Mid-Weight Linen in Light Sea Green, which is the most beautiful shade of aqua. This linen was a bit thicker than the chambray, but also really breezy and easy to wear.

I used the Low Key Cami and Getaway Shorts for the aqua set. I love the length of the cami and how I can wear it out for a top with a lot of swing, or with a quick tuck to show my waist and give my legs more length.

Even though the fabrics are different weights, they still look great together for additional outfits. I love staple pieces that I can mix-and-match!

Since I sewed shorts with the aqua linen, I had plenty of fabric leftover to make a fun swimsuit cover-up for our beach and/or pool days. I used the Seachange Romper pattern, which has an option for a cute playsuit. I have made several pants versions of these in the past, and love how full and voluminous the legs are. This is a super cute romper to throw over my swimsuit, or just walking around town.

Sewing a coat is not for the faint of heart, or for the sewist looking for a light project. It is possibly the slowest form of apparel sewing that exists. If you’ve made a coat, chances are, you know what I mean. No matter what you do, you can’t rush through it, you can’t skip steps or cut corners, you just have to roll with the punches. One minute you’re flying through assembly thinking “I’ll be finished soon,” and the next you’re running away from your sewing room because you need space. Are you guaranteed to end up with a bespoke wonder in your coat closet, most definitely! But heed my warning, if you are looking for a quick win, it is not a coat! Made By A Fabricista: Surgery, a pattern hack, and a hemming tip.

Hello sewing friends! I’m here on the blog today sharing a pattern hack I recently did to boost my wardrobe with a few pieces to wear during my recovery from surgery…and I’m also sharing a tip for those pesky rounded hems. So let’s jump in! I recently had surgery on my neck due to issues with my parathyroid glands. All went to plan and I’m doing well, but I have to admit, the scar was a bit larger and more prominent than I expected. I definitely want to cover it up a bit during the healing process, and I realized that I own very few tops that cover that area of my neck. I don’t really love wearing high neck tops, so I came up with the idea to sew a top that I could convert back to my preferred style once I recover.
