Fabric Mart Fabricistas

The minute I saw this red wool melton on Fabric Mart's site, I knew I had to make another winter coat.  It's only October, but with cold weather rapidly approaching, the sooner I started making this, the better. Last year, I used a mustardy colored wool melton to make a duffle-type coat, and it was so wonderful to sew with that I went for the same type of fabric for this make.  There is still some of this candy-apple red wool available and some other colors as well.   http://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/Candy-Red-Wool-Polyester-Melton-Coating-58W.html I was a tad bit worried: this coat has six bound button holes and with the thickness of this fabric, I wondered how they'd turn out.  I practiced several and found they worked perfectly with this fabric.  Just take your time and sew carefully and you'll get a good result. Its become our family tradition to escape to the South Carolina coast for fall break and I LOVE it- the crowds are next to non-existent, the weather isn't scorching and I get a great excuse to squeeze in just a few last summer sewing projects!    For this trip I knew I wanted a breezy and beautiful dress to go out on a belated anniversary date and when I spotted this Tori Richards palm tree print I knew it would be a perfect choice!   South Carolina is called the Palmetto State and there is even a Palmetto tree on their state flag.  My parents are from South Carolina and I spent a lot of my summers visiting that coastline so there's a lot of sentimentality wrapped up in my choice of this gorgeous fabric.   One question/concern I always have when choosing a rayon challis is "wonder if it is see-through?"  Or better yet, "Am I going to have to line this dress?"  As you can see from these pictures it is no...

So I am getting back in the mix with a few pieces of plaid and a few other prints. Now you guys know how I am with the mixing of the prints and with is s wild one right here. I mixed the two plaids with a stripe and a little flower power. Wow! We were blown away by these Fabricistas -- they all really pushed themselves to make a great fitting pair of jeans and are so proud of their accomplishments. I think everyone can relate to these ladies -- tried making jeans, had bad results and put the project away never to be seen again. But they were pushed to try it again and wow, the jeans turned out amazing!  No matter how the challenge came out in the end, these ladies should be praised for their accomplishments. Great job!! This is it, the final round! And we certainly did not go easy on our three remaining contestants this time. This round they had to make their own pair of well fitting jeans.
