Is we too many people?  Am I the only one making halter dresses in the fall? I’m not quite ready to start my fall/winter sewing, so I’ll keep summer going.  My summer was pretty eventful, and I didn’t get to sew much and now I’m trying to do a little catching up.  I’ve had this dress on my mind for a while now and I thought now is as good a time as any to sew it up and I’m so glad I did. For this month’s post, I decided to make the Julia Dress from Viki Sews.  This dress features a semi-fitted bodice with a full gathered skirt and a deep V-shaped back. The dress fastens at the neck and back with ties and of course it has pockets! I love the length of this dress. There’s nothing I love more than sewing a project that is both stylish and comfortable—and this one checks all the boxes! For this make, I paired two Pattern Emporium designs with a gorgeous designer knit fabric from Fabric Mart, and the result is a matching tank and wide-leg pant set that’s as easy to wear as it is to sew.   The Fabric Fabric Mart always has hidden gems, and this designer knit caught my eye right away.  It’s the Urban Taupe/Gold/Black Polyester/Lycra MK Chain Print ITY Knit - NY Designer - 56W.  The weight, stretch, and drape made it perfect for both a fitted top and a flowy pant. It’s soft against the skin, has great recovery, and presses beautifully. When working with knits, having a fabric that behaves well makes all the difference. Hello Sewing Friends! It’s Sharon from Sharon Sews back with a fabulous Fabricista make for fall.  I fell in love with the color of this stretch suiting and couldn’t wait to sew myself something to wear as the weather starts to cool off.   Before I share about my jacket and pants, can we have a moment to appreciate this “Jazzberry Jam” color? It brings to mind strolling through my local farmer’s market, filling my tote (handmade of course!) with fresh produce, and then baking seasonal goodies, something I love to do when the weather turns crisp.  Of course, I’m not wearing my suit for that outing!  The fabric is a designer polyester/rayon/lycra mid-weight stretch suiting that has a lovely drape and a wonderfully soft feel.  I ordered it with a jacket and pants in mind, but honestly, it would have also been stunning sewn into a vest, skirt, dress, or even a lightweight coat or cape.  It’s such a versatile fabric.  I ordered matching thread from Fa...

While I absolutely love creating cosplay content for my blog posts (and we will be returning to cosplay for my next post I promise!), I'm currently on the edge of “Cosplay Burnout”. Like any form of burnout, it's leaving me with negligible amount of desire to see, and one of the ways I like to overcome that is with doing an easier project for just me to enjoy, and that's the route I opted with for this project! When I saw this fur-like wool blend I fell in love with it! I considered making a labubu hoodie, but changed directions to a cardigan as that's a style I'd wear most often! It's currently in a blank slate state where I'm debating adding rabbit ear, or bear ears, but until I come to a conclusion, it'll just be a warm and fuzzy option now that the temperature is dropping! This project was, like all of my projects recently, an experiment in problem-solving. I initially found a dress I was in love with and thought I could make a similar pattern for. But I was severely wrong. From cutting the top of the dress out incorrectly to not thinking through the ramifications of inaccurate angles, it was a rough start. But in the end, I was able to turn the lining into a slip dress and the top of the failed project into a cute crop top. I used the Blind Stitch on my mother-in-law's machine to create an impeccable finish on both of them as well. Added to one of my circle skirts, and I managed to complete some very usable pieces for my wardrobe. Transitioning Into Fall with Tried-and-True Fabrics As we transition into fall, I wanted to highlight a fabric that’s perfect for this time of year—something versatile enough for both dressy and casual garments, and ideal for transitional weather.
