Dory:

When I saw this beautiful challis fabric on Fabric Mart’s website I knew that’s what I wanted. I had high hopes of making a New Look 6655 dress. The pattern said I only needed two yards, so that’s what I ordered. Ha! there was no way I could cut that dress out of two yards of that fabric. So I put on my thinking cap. What else could I make that I would wear A LOT because I love this fabric. I decided on Butterick 6456. I was a little confused with the pleat because it was really an inverted pleat and I kept wanting to make it a regular pleat. Finally, my sister and I discussed it and got it right. I wanted the shorter sleeve, but didn’t realize I didn’t cut the pattern in the right spot and ended up with longer sleeves. I decided since the sleeve flounce was so noticeable that I needed to line it with the same fabric. I like the way it turned out a lot!

I made a skirt to go with it from a scuba knit I had in my stash. Also from Fabric Mart. This particular piece I received in one of their fashion bundles and is it ever nice fabric! Easy to work with. I’m never disappointed with their fashion bundles. I made my skirt from McCall’s 6966. It was suppose to have an overlay at the very top of it, but I couldn’t quite figure it out. Once again, I called my sister and we decided leave the overlay off. The fabric speaks for itself.

I feel I ended up with a fantastic outfit for fall. I’m in love with it!

Dee:

The softest double brushed knit was used to make this topper! The colors range from eggshell,browns and strawberry, making this a versatile topper indeed. The knit has a 4 way stretch adding to wearing ease and sewing on this fabric was not difficult. I found it best to cut the pattern on single fold as the fabric tends to stick to itself. The topper pattern is a NewLook 6476. A great addition to any wardrobe.

The slacks are made from a polyester, lycra grid double knit. Love love love this fabric…it has a 4 way stretch and a wonderful texture. This fabric was super easy to work with, sewing up beautifully! I compare the ease of wearing this fabric to a favorite pair of sweats, but the looks of the fabric take it up to the next level. This medium weight is perfect for the cooler days ahead! The pattern is Simplicity 9272.

Both fabrics laundered well on the delicate cycle of the washer and dryer.

Sewing a coat is not for the faint of heart, or for the sewist looking for a light project. It is possibly the slowest form of apparel sewing that exists. If you’ve made a coat, chances are, you know what I mean. No matter what you do, you can’t rush through it, you can’t skip steps or cut corners, you just have to roll with the punches. One minute you’re flying through assembly thinking “I’ll be finished soon,” and the next you’re running away from your sewing room because you need space. Made By A Fabricista: Surgery, a pattern hack, and a hemming tip.

Hello sewing friends! I’m here on the blog today sharing a pattern hack I recently did to boost my wardrobe with a few pieces to wear during my recovery from surgery…and I’m also sharing a tip for those pesky rounded hems. So let’s jump in! I recently had surgery on my neck due to issues with my parathyroid glands. All went to plan and I’m doing well, but I have to admit, the scar was a bit larger and more prominent than I expected. I definitely want to cover it up a bit during the healing process, and I realized that I own very few tops that cover that area of my neck. I don’t really love wearing high neck tops, so I came up with the idea to sew a top that I could convert back to my preferred style once I recover.
