Summer calls for a bright white Jacket and a colorful top!
I used a waffle weave double knit for my fabric for this summer wardrobe essential! The fabric from Fabric Mart was wonderful as always. This medium weight fabric laundered easily and was a breeze to sew on. The pattern I used was Simplicity 1073 view D, with three-quarter length sleeves and a one button closure on the front. The pattern itself was an easy sew, with two small pleats on the front bodice at the shoulders and a box plate in the back.
For the colorful summer top, I used a polyester with lyrca. This fabric also laundered up wonderfully and was easy to sew on. The pattern was Butterick 5954, view A with the short sleeves from view C. This pattern was also an easy sew. The tunic is a close fitting flared pull over, being versatile enough to be paired with multiple wardrobe items.
Thank you Fabric Mart for the wonderful fabric!

Summer needs to have some white in it! And it’s rumored that white on white is very “in” right now.
I used 100% linen - white with a sketchy tropical floral print of biscuit brown and powder blue for the long tunic. It was a dream to work with! The pattern was New Look 6566. The neckline and armholes are finished with single fold bias tape. I shortened the length of the tunic by not adding on the additional pattern piece needed to make it longer. I’m only 5’5” so this made for a nice length.
The pants from the same pattern were made out of 100% cotton ripstop jacketing fabric, which was also very easy to work with. This fabric is perfect for jacket, pants, or a tote. It washed up very nicely and irons beautifully. The pockets for the pants are made from the yoke and give it a very nice flat finish. I did not add the drawstring as I didn’t want any bulk in the front.
