Dee:

For my spring dress I chose a 100% Cotton Poplin Shirting, with a soft smooth finish, being tightly woven. I loved the fabric and did not use my original dress pattern as the poplin did not drape or flow as I had hoped. For me the fabric is just a bit crisp for the pattern I had originally chosen and, I feel, even for the pattern I made. The color palette is a beautiful green background with black dots and black and white flora branches.The fabric being a 100% cotton handled with ease and sewing on it was a breeze.

I used Simplicity 9138. This dress has 3 views, with the various views being a change with the sleeve view. I choose the three quarter sleeve view with elastic insert, the neckline is finished with a bias binding made out of the fabric. The front of the neckline has gathers as does the waist where the fabric made belt casing is placed. The fabric made belt goes through the belt casing and ties in the back. A zipper is inserted into the center back seam as this is needed to get the dress on over one’s head! For this particular pattern I would choose a fabric with more flow..but the poplin fabric is beautiful and would be perfect for a more structured look!!

I’m in love with the fun, spring look of this fabric. For the dress l used a 100% Cotton Poplin. The pale yellow and navy blue combination is perfect for this dress that reminds me a bit of the ’50’s. I used Simplicity 9473, View A and also made the versatile little jacket to go with it. For that fabric I used a nice chambray yarn-dyed linen. Both of the fabrics are from Fabric Mart. The jacket and the bodice of the dress are both lined, which gives them a nice finished look. There are a few issues with the guide sheet that Simplicity provided for the dress. Check out our YouTube where I show you the pattern pieces and the discrepancies in the guide sheet. There you will see it says to sew up the side seams and then add the pockets, which you can’t do, and also it leaves out on the tissue of the pattern that the back bodice of the dress needs to have lining also cut (not just the fabric). But all in all I love the dress with the little jacket! It makes a nice spring time addition to my wardrobe. Be sure and check out Fabric Mart's cotton poplin and linen!

Made By A Fabricista: Wrapped up in Denim

Denim is definitely one of my favorite fabrics to wear during the fall, more than any other season. I'm sharing my first denim project for Fall 2023 in this months Fabricista feature because let's be real, its one of the most iconic fabrics ever, its always in style and most everything can be made with denim. This denim is Fabric Marts Deep Prussian Blue 100% Cotton Denim, and it was the perfect fabric for this project. I really enjoyed working with this denim. It had a little more drape and body than most denims that are stiff and don't provide much give, but of course that's the good thing about denim, it comes in so many ranges which makes it clearly the best fabric for any project. I created a hack for my most recent Fall KnowMe pattern, ME2054. But not only did I hack this pattern, but I did a pattern mash with my Spring KnowMe pattern ME2020, creating this cool, chic denim jumpsuit. Made By A Fabricista: Spring Into Bold Closet Core Mitchell Trousers in Linen Cotton

Hello Sewing Friends! It's Tira from Tira Cooks and I am so excited to share my very first Fabricista make with you all! When I spotted this white linen cotton blend with bold black and green printed illustrations I immediately knew it was the perfect way to welcome spring. The combination of linen and cotton keeps you cool during the day and comfortable as the evening cools down truly the ideal spring fabric. Can we take a moment to appreciate this print? Cheetah print, a sun face, long stripes, and flowers all in one design. Everything you would not expect to see together, but somehow it just works. What really drew me in is the scale of the print it is bold enough that you can see every single detail. Unexpected, maximalist, and done right. Before cutting into anything, we cannot skip fabric prep! Linen cotton blends must be pre-washed before cutting to prevent shrinkage.
