Dee - I retired after 35 years of being an RN.  My faith is very important to me and takes first place in my life.  I was raised on a small farm and loved it.  I feel no matter what a persons age is there’s a lot of life to live.  I’m married and have 2 sons. I have only one sibling, my sister, who is very important to me. Dory - I’m 64 years old and retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation. For my January post, I knew I wanted a pretty sweater in one of FM's fabulous sweater knits.  I love all the colors in this sweater knit shown below.   As I write this, it appears this gorgeous knit is sold out.  But, there are some nice choices you can see here:  Sweater Knit Fabrics I take just a few precautions when sewing sweater knits.  Don't worry, they are easy!   I always stabilize the back shoulder seam and back neckline.  There are many products on the market.  This is basically fusible interfacing cut in 1/2" strips.  Test your fabric prior to putting an iron on it.  This knit withstood some nice steam and also a bit of heat which made is so easy to work with.   If you are interested, here is the pattern I used from StyleArc.   This is the Brooklyn top. Happy Saturday All! My summer break has officially come to an end and I am super excited to start a NEW school year.  I have been given the opportunity to teach 2 elective creative classes and yes, I plan to include sewing.  I am overjoyed about this new challenge and can't wait to share my passion for sewing with my students. Now let's get to the point!

Linen is a go to fabric for me, especially in these sweltering summer months, and gingham is one of my favorite patterns so when I saw this navy gingham linen I got excited (Sorry, this one has sold out!). I decided to make separates for once so I also grabbed this solid navy linen  (Still in stock!). Originally I was thinking about a top and some wide leg pants, but then switched to Mimi's summer release - Simplicity 8927. Happy Saturday Loves! I am officially on summer break and I am so excited that I will have all the time in the world to sew.   I am ready to embark on my summer challenges and tackle and learn new skills.  One of my main goal before the end of this summer is to make a lined jacket and prep for a fall coat.  I have been dreading it for years and plan to overcome my fear.

I am getting tired of winter.  It's lingering.  It's cold.  I need spring.  I need new clothes.  Ok, done whining!   I needed some basic colored tops in some not so basic shapes.  These two fit the bill.   The ivory is a Linen/Cotton/Rayon blend.  Pictures don't do the fabric justice.  It has a lovely shine and drape.  If you've never checked out Fabric Mart's linen section, you need to!  The fabric is so pretty, is high quality, and never disappoints me.  

I really LOVED the Julie's Picks for December 2018.  I was all set to buy a few yards of a few fabrics, but because early December was crazy for me, I only got around to buying fabric in mid-December, and by that point, a lot of my favorite fabrics were already sold out (super bummed!).  But there were at least a few of this gorgeous blue burnout velvet available, and was I ever stoked to find out I could use them for a cute, comfortable, and very festive New Year's outfit. Every year we are invited to friend's house (just down the street, so super easy to get to--we always walk) on New Year's Day.  I knew I wanted something that would suit the occasion, so I went with a long-sleeved easy and loose fitting swing dress.  I knew that even though the burnout velvet was a knit and quite stretchy, I would prefer the swingy feel for most of the dress since the beautiful medallion pattern would be most stunning when it was allowed to move and shine with the glimpses of...

Liesl + co Classic Shirt in navy blue linen Hi everybody, blue is one of my favorite colours and I love all shades of blue - from pale sky blue to midnight blue and everything in between. For this month's post I was inspired by some blue fabrics on FM's website, and I made 3 shirts out of them! I've been wanting to try the Classic Shirt by Liesl + co since its release, so I grabbed some designer quality blue linen and gave it a try.

Hey there, Fabricistas! It's Meg from Cookin' and Craftin' . When you decide on a sewing project, do you choose the fabric first, or the pattern? My process varies, but in this case, the gorgeous fabric came first, then I pondered patterns that would highlight the fabric best.

Seasonally inappropriate sewing alert! I've got a long sleeved  double knit  t-shirt dress for you on this hot, hot midsummer day... I was absolutely melting when taking these photos (hence the sunglasses and wet hair!) but I am in love with my new dress!

I am in love with most of the McCall's EARLY-SPRING pattern and will be sewing up a storm the next few weeks.  I knew for sure that I wanted to use at least 3 to 4 to create a Spring capsule which include dresses, jumpsuits, and tops with sleeve drama.  When I saw this pattern M7723 , I knew it was a MUST have.  It was icing on the cake when they created a mini version of a popular sleeve pattern M7542   now for girls in M7708 . I chose to use seersucker fabric for both as recommended by Jackie the pattern designer at McCall's.  The fabric that I chose for my look is a 100% cotton seersucker with NO stretch while Arielle's fabric has 3% lycra stretch. Fabric Mart has a huge selection and a variety of colors available ( HERE ).  I quickly ordered my fabric and choose colors that were perfect for Spring....
