Summer is finally upon those of us in this part of the world! June is one of my favorite months. It’s the first time it really feels like summer, it stays light outside past 8pm and it is Pride Month! Pride is a yearlong allyship in my house and I try my best to always listen, show up, see and support my friends and family in the LGTBQIA+ community. Although Pride Month is only once a year, who you are and who you love should be celebrated year-round, not just once a year! For this month’s make, I knew I wanted to be conscious of my fabric choice this time since it is summer, and it’ll be over 100 degrees here daily soon so I wanted something breezy and light. Have you ever lost your sewjo, or just taken a long break from sewing after a really hard project? After spending months altering a wedding dress, I just needed a bit of a break from sewing. Alterations are not my cup of tea, so I treated myself to a well-deserved few weeks off. After my sewing hiatus, I was ready to jump back in with a new sewing pattern I hadn't made before. The Sew Over It Penny Dress has been on my "have to make" list for a long time so it seemed like the perfect pattern to help me ease back into my usual sewing routine.  After browsing the Fabric Mart website for the perfect fabric for my Penny Dress, I noticed this beautiful black, shadow blue, and off-white floral peach skin fabric. Have a mentioned that I just LOVE a good matching set?  I think it's even better in this gorgeous floral fabric, don’t you think?  Usually, for my Fabric Mart makes, I always pick out my pattern first and then I check out the site for fabric that calls my name.  This time around I was intentionally searching for florals and I think I found the perfect fabric.  I'm in love.   For my matching set, I chose to use Simplicity S9550 X Mimi G.  This pattern is so simple but yet it offers a few different design options, which I’m all about.  The top is a dolman sleeve crop top with different sleeve and back options and you can make the bottoms as a skirt or shorts. For the top I went with view B but I chose to not add the elastic to the waist line.  I made a size 18 and I added an 1 ½” to the hem of the top because I’m only partly about that crop top life. Summer is so close I can taste it! With hot weather on the way, I need to get my sleeveless wardrobe up to date and stocked. I love to pair a breezy tank with shorts, and nothing is easier than throwing on a simple dress and heading out the door to drop off kids at camp or cruise to the beach. When the heat is up, the easier for me to get dressed the better.  With this in mind, I chose to add more woven tanks to my closet. They are cool to wear and not clingy like a knit top can often be. I looked through the ever-growing pattern section of the site, and the dartless aspect of the Megan Nielsen Eucalypt Tank was especially appealing to me.   No darts makes this a rather quick sewing project. The color blocking instructions are great, plus a basic tank is endlessly hackable and thus incredibly useful. Hi everyone, so question, are you a fan of indie patterns?  Did you know that I’m an indie pattern designer as well?   For my blog post this month I decided to use indie patterns for my feature.  Buying indie patterns is a great way to support the sewing community, as a designer it’s so rewarding to see others make your designs and all the variations that are made from it. When I saw these printed charmeuse fabrics I was so in love, I couldn’t decide on which one to choose so I went with two beautiful options to create separate looks.  I knew the fabric I selected would be perfect for my upcoming vacation. The colors are vibrant and bold and even more beautiful in person.
