Made by a Fabricista: Sporty Chic

Hello my darlings,

Here I am once again to share another beautiful make with you and I am thrilled.

Let’s start by talking about this amazing jersey knit fabric, while I am always team woven I was attracted by the nonchalant look of the fabric. The navy blue font features white rhombus shaped flowers with red polka dot inside and pink polka dot in between each flowers placed diagonally. I love it!

The original plan was to make a jumpsuit, however the more I look at the fabric the more it was calling for something else. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it yet, nonetheless on a quick trip to Walmart my eyes spotted a roll of red and white striped ribbon, the decision was obvious: sporty chic it is!

I got home that day, pulled out my TNT self-drafted pants pattern and went to work; I couldn’t help but to stay smiling as I was cutting telling myself how good this is going to be. I originally added a fly whit the intention of making a clean trouser look but once I added the ribbon there was no doubt that a pair of joggers was in order. I kept the zipper fly, however, I added an elastic waistband and a band to the legs to complete the look needed. Let’s not forget the infamous pockets, because really what would you call joggers without pockets?

For the top I chose McCall’s M7808. This pattern offers five different views with sleeves variations a ruffle and one front flounce option. I went with view D, I appreciate that it’s a fit loosely with a drop shoulder and band sleeves. At the shoulder seam I also added the ribbon ending right before the band to create balance. This very comfortable top has a facing for the neckline and a one button closure in the back, I added a hook and eye.

This will be a to go look for the summer, styled it with a pair of red sneakers but I can easily see it paired with a pair of heels or some flats. As you may or may not know I am a big fan of separates for the functionality of the pieces, I can already envision the multiple options. I accomplished exactly the look I was going for and I am so pleased with how it turned out.
