 Hey everyone! Welcome back to my second Fabric Mart Fabricista post! When I selected my fabrics, I had a completely different idea in mind for what I wanted to make. But the more I thought about it, and the closer I got to starting my project, the more I dreaded the make!  Then, my office job announced that we are going to start going back to the office 2x/week, so I decided to ditch my original plan and come up with a couple pieces that I could use for transitioning back to the office. I knew I wanted something easy to throw on that I could style a couple of different ways, which is how I settled on this neutral colored Crinkle Chiffon that I got for $1.99/yard! I used McCall #8030, View A. Making buttonholes give me heartburn enough the way it is, but the thought of trying to do it on chiffon nearly sent me to the grave… so pearl snaps to the rescue!  This pattern is meant as a dress, but with the sheer nature of the chiffon, I went for a layering top. Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved dresses! I used to wake up in the morning with images of dresses in my mind that someday I hoped I would make for myself or others. I didn't know how to sew back then so I often wondered if my dream would ever become a reality.  I went through a phase around age 8 when I refused to wear pants. Dresses and skirts were the only things I wanted to wear and I was very outspoken about it. Sorry, Mom, for being such a stubborn kid, I just loved dresses too much to bother with pants. Though many things have changed in the past twenty years, my love for dresses has not changed! I still wake up some mornings with images of dresses in my mind, and when given the choice to wear pants or a dress, I'd pick the dress every time. When given a chance to sew pants or a dress, I'd also pick the dress every time! Hey Friends! It’s Tea and I’m back with another Fabricista Sewing Blog. This month I made a few sewing projects for this post including  the Southport Dress by True Bias, a McCall’s pleated skirt pattern, a Vogue stylish hat , and a simple and easy jersey Burda Style tee. I’m excited to share my experience with you and give you a review of the patterns and fabrics I used to make these projects.  Growing up in New Jersey, summer was remarkably hot. My mother often cautioned my siblings and I to avoid going outside in dark clothing. “Dark clothing attracts heat and going outside in this summer heat in all black can cause a heat stroke …” mom would say. I’m sure many of you have heard this before. It’s definitely something I heard every summer.  Although I agree with mom, I love wearing black throughout the year, and I usually make a few black summer outfits. I’ve always enjoyed being comfortable in what I wear, but it kind of became a thing during 2020.  I don’t know about you, but I am ALL about being cute and comfy.  What can be more comfortable then athleisure wear? During 2020, everything closed, including the gyms.  Even before the gyms closed, I’ve always wanted to make some athleisure wear.  I never really cared what I looked like when I went to the gym and you better believed I never really matched.  I would just throw on T-Shirt and leggings and get my workout one.  Well, with the world opening back up, including the gyms, I’ve decided that I needed cute workout clothes. Gordonia Hoodie For my top I chose to make the Gordonia Hoodie from Mood Fabrics.  Mood regularly releases patterns and they are free!  The Gordonia Hoodie is a cropped hoodie that can easily be made in a single afternoon.  I cut a size 12/14 and the only modification I made was to add a ½” to the hem of the hoodie....

May was a month with a load of events and milestones! I'm so thrilled that I was able to get fully vaccinated and wait those final two weeks for immunity to kick in, and my relief and gratitude feel overwhelming. I toasted to a lovely Mother's Day, I celebrated my 40th birthday, and I had my first in-person gathering with my favorite girlfriends in over a year! All of these things brought me so much joy, so naturally a joyful dress was a wonderful way for me to express myself. Wearing and sewing linen were both part of my Me Made May pledge, so I'm happy to report that this dress fit the bill on both accounts. Nice!  Tiered dresses are everywhere now, and I'm finding them irresistible. They offer so much fun movement even just walking around, and they could not be more comfortable in warm weather.  I have this frequent urge to combine multiple colorways of the same fabric into one garment, and this is absolute the perfect style for me to engage in those shenanigans! As the warmer weather approaches linen is probably one of my favorite fabrics that I feel often gets overlooked.   It drapes well, it’s cool and comfortable and you can make almost anything out of it. For this feature I used 4 yards of designer linen to create a vintage inspired look.  I had an image of a vintage Butterick pattern from the 60’s that I had saved on my Pinterest board.  I love the versatility and easiness of the style.  Since I did not have access to the pattern, I used similar patterns from my stash along with my own pattern drafting to replicate the style.  In the end I created 4 pieces total allowing for interchangeable looks. To create the skirt I used McCall’s pattern 7981 which is almost I identical to the on featured on the vintage pattern.  The shorts pattern was McCall’s 7962.  They are perfect to wear underneath the skirt for a layered look or by themselves.
