Resource Library: Favorites

I love reading blogs and catching up on posts before bedtime.
There are so many posts that I love and like to revisit and I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you.

I was surprised to find out that the headquarters is so close to Fabric Mart!

This is a great tutorial on how to wallpaper your wall with a projector and sharpie!
How cute would this be in a child's room or as a fun accent wall or hallway?
(It's easier than it looks!)

I love making pretty fashionable pieces that I wouldn't wear everyday. But then I run into a problem.
I have nothing to wear to my day job. It doesn't seem like such a bad thing until you are actually in the position of deciding whether to wear pajamas to work because the only thing in your closet are party dresses. And as fun as it would be to wear party dresses to work, lugging bolts of fabric up and down stairs just doesn't really permit such attire.

I personally signed up for Me-Made-May to attempt to wear more of my sewing projects as well as create more pieces to fill in the holes in my wardrobe.
It might be a little late to sign up with So, Zo for this challenge, but you could always try to challenge yourself!

The Stitching Odyssey wrote a little post about her frustration with sewing lately.
I know I personally get a little upset when I spend a lot of time on a piece and it comes out a dud. Ill-fitted, uncomfortable, the zipper breaks, etc.
She states in this post that she is not doing the Me-Made- May challenge due to her current mishaps in sewing.

But I am going into the challenge with opposite feelings.
I want to work on getting better at create items that fit me the first time I make them. I will be taking my time to do the muslin and fit the garment to me first before cutting my good fabric.
I will also take my time fixing up some of the items I have made. Maybe they just need a new hem, or a less puffy sleeve, or to be taken in at the waist.
 Here goes nothing! - Katie

  1. I suffer from the "party dress" syndrome, too. Those kind of clothes are just more fun to make---and the fabric is more fun to buy. Alas, life is so casual these days. How can we make casual dressing more fun?

  2. I LOVE to make dresses! I am a stay at home woman with my own sewing business. I hate to wear shorts in the summer. My closet is filled with dresses, mostly easy care knit. I wear them all summer long. They are more fun to make. People always ask me why I am dressed up. I do it for comfort. I always tell my friends I was born in the wrong era. Sewing is in my blood. I, too, have mishaps in sewing. I usually put them aside and when I am in the mood I go back and try to fix the wrong. Sometimes it does not work. When that happens I just reconstruct it into something else if at all possible. I hate waste.

Danesha from  Classyfied Life So first I must say that this entire challenge has been just that...a challenge! Two weeks ago there was hurricane Irma and I was blessed enough to not lose power and then I went out into the aftermath to capture some photos of my submission. Then two weeks ago I had a big trip planned so I had to do EVERYTHING  in two days . Then the BIGGEST challenge of all...THIS week! I got the challenge and I was super excited to have an extra few days and then before I could even get started I ended up in the eme

Made By A Fabricista: A great tee shirt pattern – or three!

Hi fellow sewists! It’s Andrea  @happy.things.here and I’m here today to talk tee shirts!  I love a good tee pattern…or two…or four. Despite having more than enough of them in my pattern collection, I’m always up for trying a new one. And I also have my favorites and tried and trues (TNTs). I love the versatility of a good tee pattern – dress it up with fancy fabrics to make a work wardrobe piece, use a high quality solid to add some basics, or anything in between. Today I’m sharing three patterns I’ve used multiple times and with many different kinds of fabrics - all a little different and all great beginner patterns too. First up is the newest addition to my pattern collection – the Upland tee and crop top by Rivet Patterns. They are a newer designer who I recently discovered when this tee pattern caught my eye. I love that it has multiple bodice options including a classic design tee and also a crop version with different separate and uniquely shaped bodice pieces. I first made the

Made By A Fabricista: Dreamy Florals | A DIY Dress Inspired by Son de Flor's Spring Collection

Hi everyone!  When I saw this floral print linen/cotton blend make it’s way onto the to-be-described table I knew I had to make a dress from it.  I’d been staring dreamily at all the dresses from the brand Son de Flor who had just put out their spring collection and thought, maybe I can throw together something inspired by them!  I grabbed three yards of that floral shirting and a yard of SWC5682w to line the bodice with.  I used Simplicity’s S8946 for its simple bodice block.  This pattern has a gathered rectangle for the skirt, but I’m a sucker for a circle skirt so that’s where I decided to start.  I folded the fabric twice and cut out the longest circle the fabric would allow.  Then got to work on the bodice, sewing up the darts and attaching everything. Now, I don’t love installing zippers.  I ha d a lot of trouble getting them to sit right, and no matter how much mental gymnastics I do when first pinning one side is always put in the wrong way.  So while I did have to unpick and
