Today we thought we would give you access to a little behind the scenes of what makes Fabric Mart so special. We sat down & asked our current longest employee a few questions... Let's get to know Brett!

Who are you? Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Brett. I have two jobs, this being my full time job. I live with my girlfriend and twin teenage daughters in Lancaster. We also have a dog and 2 cats. Which is why the 2 jobs.

How long have you worked at Fabric Mart?

I have been working at Fabric Mart for 11 years, 23 days, 10 hours and 32 seconds, but who's counting?

What is your official title?

I am the Warehouse Manager

What are your main responsibilities? What do you do?

How much time do you have? Here is a short list....

Organize and locate fabric on shelves. Schedule, pickup, load, unload, and make room for truck shipments. Order shipping boxes, supplies, and machine parts. Keep the warehouse clean and organized. As well as keep our web and retail store stocked with fabric.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Fabric Mart?

It is a very friendly place to work. The managers are great to work with and make coming to work fun.

Do you consider yourself crafty?

I am crafty in a woodworking and landscaping kind of way. I love building things and I love getting dirty in the yard. It is all about the end result.

Favorite thing to do outside of work? Any hobbies?

Relax. Spending time with my family and friends. Watching football, playing cornhole.

Do you collect anything?

I collect Funko pops and Nutcrackers.

What is a TV show you are currently binging?

I am watching Stranger Things and Yellowstone. If you have not watched them, I would recommend it. Just waiting for the seasons to start up again.

If you could only eat one dish for every meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Drop some knowledge… What’s the best advice you were ever given?

I am not able to pick just one saying, because my parents taught me a lot, especially my dad. So I would say the advice given to me was more visual. He was a hard working man who put everyone else first. Even with his struggles with cancer, he would always think of others before himself. That is the kind of person I want to be.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

There is one thing I have to say.... GO EAGLES!!

I’m trying to make the best out of a blazing situation with a gorgeous swishy dress made in a splendid graphic print in an attempt to keep my cool when I am very much not. The Perfect Plan for this Linen Blend! Until I Changed My Mind.

Hello Sewing Friends! It’s Sharon from Sharon Sews with another Fabricista make. When I saw this linen blend designer fabric on the Fabric Mart Fabrics website, I was intrigued. After all, I, like many of you, love to find designer fabrics at an affordable price. It is a linen/nylon/rayon/Lycra blend, and I wondered what the designer had created with the fabric as I wasn’t familiar with that combination of fibers. Surprisingly, I discovered a sleeveless, lined, mid-length vest in the same color with an almost identical fabric composition. Perfect! I’ve been wanting to sew a longer vest with matching pants, and that discovery confirmed this fabric would work beautifully for the look I had in mind. Sewing With Intention: New Look 6106 and a More Coordinated Wardrobe

Sometimes a sewing project begins with a beautiful piece of fabric or a pattern you just have to make. This one began with my closet. Recently, I did a major closet purge. I took a good look at what I actually wear, what I kept reaching for, and—maybe more importantly—what was missing. Once the pieces I no longer loved or wore were gone, something became very clear: I want to be more intentional about what I sew next.
