Made By A Fabricista: My Anthropologie Recreate the look Dress!

I went shopping at Anthropologie this Summer with my daughter and she kept saying you should make an Anthropologie Dress, but better! (Like it’s hard?!) So, I did! I chose a beautiful cotton lawn with a navy background, abstract purple roses plus green and beige stems/leaves. I chose to use the Tilly and the buttons Lyra shirt dress pattern with the extra tier and long sleeves. I made my size according to my measurements without any adjustments. I did widen the tie belt to make a larger bow. Anthropologie has a dress now on their site called the Bettina Tiered Shirt Dress by Maeve for $148. How did I do??

I really enjoy wearing and sewing Cotton Lawn. When I see it available on Fabric Mart, I grab it up quickly! This dress is light and soft but with long sleeves it is the perfect dress to wear for Fall.

I don’t normally like shirt dresses or collars, but this oversized dress pattern fits comfortably. The collar is not difficult at all. Tilly has a video to help, but I didn’t need it because the instructions were great! The button placket is also easy to construct. My first version of this dress I made in a rayon came apart at the button placket seam after washing so I DID NOT trim the seams this time. I also did not trim the collar seams quite as much and they turned out perfect.

The sleeves are the perfect length. I am 5’10” and usually need to lengthen bodices, sleeves and the length of dresses. I didn’t make any adjustments to this pattern and it fits perfectly. My least favorite part of sewing is pattern adjustments. I find that Tilly and the Buttons patterns really fit me well. I really enjoy making her patterns so much. I also added a “sweary” label from Kylie and the machine because its fun!

I absolutely love this dress! I received so many compliments today at work. It brings me so much joy to wear my handmade colorful clothes. Will you make a Lyra? It is such a wonderful pattern! Follow me @Hoppaheedahoe

Made By A Fabricista: Turning the Page

We had a lovely, warm September in central New Jersey but as of last week, fall has finally started to set in. While I’m no longer operating on a school calendar, I always look forward to the return of fall, the crisp air, the colorful leaves, and the opportunity to “turn over a new leaf.” While exploring the Fabric Mart website, browsing all their gorgeous cottons, I was incredibly inspired by the Eggshell/Black 100% Cotton Horizontal Stripe Weave Lawn . It looks exactly like a lined piece of paper. I thought it would make a fun top for work during this transitional season, one that sparks “blank page” creativity. I wanted to pair the top with a simple yet classic pair of pants, allowing each piece to be a quality addition to my work and loungewear wardrobe, working together and as separates. Made By A Fabricista: In the Fall, We Make Halter Dresses

Is we too many people? Am I the only one making halter dresses in the fall? I’m not quite ready to start my fall/winter sewing, so I’ll keep summer going. My summer was pretty eventful, and I didn’t get to sew much and now I’m trying to do a little catching up. I’ve had this dress on my mind for a while now and I thought now is as good a time as any to sew it up and I’m so glad I did. For this month’s post, I decided to make the Julia Dress from Viki Sews. This dress features a semi-fitted bodice with a full gathered skirt and a deep V-shaped back. The dress fastens at the neck and back with ties and of course it has pockets! I love the length of this dress. It’s not too short and it’s not too long, which is usually an issue for me because I’m so short.
