Made by a Fabricista: Hawaiian Lawn and a Pocketed Dress (McCall's 7712).

For my make for early Summer (which I am publishing now in late summer!), I decided that I really liked the looks of some of the beautiful Hawaiian designer lawns that Fabric Mart carries. I saw florals and lines and quirky prints, but eventually I decided to go with an abstract print (dotted to look like landscapes-- here is another color still available ) in blues and aquas.

Made by a Fabricista: Percale Carolyn Pajamas

Of all of the various genres of sewing projects, pajamas hold a special place in my heart.  All my kids and I enjoy designing a new set together and when we're not busy doing soccer or baseball, we really do enjoy hanging around the house a lot in our pajamas.  What can I say?  We like to be cozy!  When I saw this percale sheeting, I knew it'd be perfect to for a new set of  Closet Case's Carolyn Pajamas  for me.

Made by a Fabricista: Seersucker Take Two

Back in July of 2016 I attempted to sew Vogue 8968 out of a blue and white seersucker, but I sewed it a size to small (read that post here ). I was pretty bummed because I really liked the dress, aside from the fit, so when I saw this sapphire and white poly cotton seersucker I decided to try again!

Made by a Fabricista: A Love Affair with Fabric!

Happy Saturday All!!   My Summer BREAK is officially over and I will be heading back to work on Monday!  I had an amazing SEW summer and I can't wait to start the planning process for my Fall makes. Have you ever fell in love with a piece of fabric just by the touch and how it feels on the skin?  In June's edition of  Julie's pick , I wanted to order at least 10 fabrics just by the way it felt.  Having a busy schedule throughout the school year, honestly, I never sat down and delved deeply into this amazing offer from Fabric Mart that was just a mere $5 a month.

Made By A Fabricista: The Skirt That Should Have Been Pants!

Hi Fashionistas! So, here I am sharing with you a project that did not go as planned.. but I could hear Tim Gunn say the entire time "Make it work".. so I did! I was so excited to be making a pair of pants since I have not made one in a while. I had high hopes for the perfect pant. I had the most amazing fabric and such a cute pattern picked out. But alas.. it just did not go as planned. So long story short, after I sewed up the pants, I did my first fitting before applying a facing.. and I knew right then and there that the pants would not work for me. I did not even want to attempt the numerous alterations I knew it would take.. so my sewing adventure took a plot twist. I turned the pants into a skirt.

Made by a Fabricista: Experimenting with Percale

Don't know about you, but this time of year, I like to start thinking about sewing some garments for fall.  I love the colors of fall, the browns, oranges, greens, and purples. I found this brown, floral percale on Fabric Mart's site and wanted to try it for a garment. There are lots of choices on their site, which you can see here:  Percale/Sheeting

Made by a Fabricista: Hawaiian lawn print sundress + silk taffeta dress!

Marfy 6193 sundress made in a Hawaiian designer lawn print Hi everybody, it's Virginie from Jazz Couture and I'm back this month with 2 new dresses! The first one, Marfy 6193, had been on my bucket list since the release of their Summer 2018 collection. I had envisioned many fabrics to make it, but when FM listed some Hawaiian designer fabrics not long ago I jumped on this beautiful print; I knew it would be perfect for the sundress I had in mind!

Made by a Fabricista: Vogue 1584 in ITY

I've had my eye on several ITY knits on the Fabric Mart site for some time, and if you missed Tiffany's post , you should really go back and look at all the great ITY she incorporated in some really cute wrap dresses.  I chose a designer ITY for my post this month and as I've said before, the designer fabrics never disappoint.  ITY fabrics can really vary in quality and my preference is for the more crepe like texture of some of them rather than the slick feeling of others.  This ITY draped so nicely for this dress and feels high quality.

Made by a Fabricista: Neutral Territory

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. "-Woody Allen That quote is so true!  How often do you plan on making one thing with a fabric and end up making something completely different?  Back in May, I was inspired by Peggy Sager's YouTube channel to copy Eileen Fisher's System, where you have 8 neutral wardrobe pieces that form the backbone of your wardrobe.  It's a great idea, and I ordered some neutral fabrics from the High End designer section of Fabric Mart's website.  Here are the items from Eileen Fisher's website that I originally planned to try to duplicate:
