Hello everyone!  I’m returning to the blog for a special event dress- I needed something to wear to my 40th class reunion!  Of course, Fabric Mart had the perfect fabric for it- an embroidered eyelet cotton gauze.  Here in the northern hemisphere, the weather has been hot and humid, so I knew that I wanted something lightweight and breathable.   So many ready to wear special occasion dresses are all polyester, which would just make me hot and sweaty, so I dusted off the sewing machine after several months of non-use, and got to work so that I could make something that I would be comfortable wearing.   The fabric had a single border, and was just 48” wide, so I ordered 4-3/4 yards just to make sure that I had enough fabric.  I wasn’t sure what style I was going to make when I ordered it, but I also anticipated that being a cotton gauze, it would have significant shrinkage.  I prewashed and dried it before cutting out my pattern pieces. It’s Summer and who doesn’t like to see Flowers Bloom? I really wanted to emphasize Summer and the beauty of the flowers we see and love, so I chose this beautiful Navy/Red Poplin Shirting fabric with Double Floral Borders (#BHB6235) that was perfect for this project. I actually started off in my mind making a pair of light-weight Summer pants and a button up blouse but somehow it turned into this fabulous jumpsuit. When that happens to me, I always say to myself, “This is what it was really meant to be”. I used just under 4 yards of this fabric to create this jumpsuit because I had to make sure I had the perfect pattern placement on the fabric and I also love wide-leg pants. This is a mashup of 2 different patterns to create this look. I used the bodice of the Oleander Dress from Mood Society and the pants from the Simplicity 8389 pattern which I hacked by taking the pleats out of the front of the pants and placing them in the back of the pants instead. Dee:  My beautiful Fabricista Make was made from a polyester linen blend floral print. The fabric has a somewhat crisp drape and is slightly textured. This woven fabric has no stretch and falls moderately from the body. The fabric laundered well with a gentle wash cycle using cool water. Simplicity S9099 was my pattern of choice. The skirt is cut on the bias with four pieces being attached to an asymmetrical bodice. These lines add to the elegant drape of the dress. The sleeves are raglan with a front and a back to the sleeve and a middle slit opening with a narrow hem accented by two buttons being position along the middle sleeve seam just above the slit in the sleeve opening. Hello, everyone! I am back! Today I want to share my latest project that I am super excited about! I have so much that I want to share! Are y'all ready?  This dress was love at first sight, again! The Sofia Dress! I have wanted to own a garment with shirring for a while. When I saw the Sofia Dress, I had to have it. It's not just because of the shirring but also because it has a lovely square neckline and beautiful puff sleeves. Even the sleeves have shirring! I was sold! Because of these lovely details, I thought that this would be a big project for me to jump right in (at least in my head at the time, Lol), so I decided to take baby steps.  First, I wanted to be familiar with shirring, so I made two tops, #M7901 and Mimi woven top from Style Arc. Going through quarantine has made me appreciate comfort like never before. I am going to hold on to my sweatpants and comfy clothes for as long as I can, and cosplay is no exception. For this latest project, I wanted to create something comfortable that I can use both at a con and at home. I was inspired by the character Mermista from the animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.  I chose a nylon-lycra 4-way-stretch activewear knit fabric in the colors sea blue and aqua blue. The stretch and comfort were perfect for this set. Check out the video below to see how I made my piece! I used an existing pair of leggings and a crop top to create my patterns. I like keeping things simple, so I used some extra newspaper I had to draft my pattern pieces. I made a couple of modifications, by extending the size of the waistband and the length of the crop top. Hello Everyone! Summer is upon us and I am excited about sewing with bold colors and printed fabrics. Every summer, I try to make a mini collection to mix and match with items in my closet. The Fabric. I selected 2 different color ways of a cotton poplin fabric in the blue and pink . I especially love that it is a stripe and floral mixed prints fabric. It’s lightweight, breathable and absolutely perfect for a hot summer day. The Pattern. I made 3 different pieces in this mini collection: a pair of casual shorts, a blouse and a maxi dress. For the shorts, I used McCalls 8221 view B with the ruffles on view A. I made Nina Lee Patterns “Bakerloo” for my blouse and it turned out great. The midi/maxi dress was made with the newest Helen’s closet pattern: Reynolds. I didn’t make any fit alterations or style changes for any of the pieces I made, the “Reynolds” dress did come with D come size which I took advantage off to make my dress.
