YouTuber's Dee & Dory are back on the Fabric Mart blog today with their most recent Fabricista Makes. Make sure to click play on the video below to hear all about their fabric choices & how their projects turned out! Dory I made a purple floral tunic out of 60” jersey fabric using Vogue 9224. The fabric was so easy to work with and washed up fabulously using a cold, gentle wash.  Because it’s a jersey there is no raveling and no need to roll a hem.  Just turn it up and sew it down! I was able to make a size medium because of the four way stretch in the jersey. Also, the fabric made for an easy cowl neck! This tunic is long enough it can be worn as a dress with leggings! Since the weather has gotten cooler I’ve been drawn to corduroy looks and getting inspiration from vintage seventies fashion to add more Fall pieces to my wardrobe. For this month's Fabricista feature I created the perfect two piece to set off my Fall looks. This corduroy from Fabric Mart is a bright turquoise blue and its medium weighted which makes it great for outerwear and bottom weighted pieces. I used two of my favorite patterns to create a complete look and added Fabric Mart’s printed satin to create a scarf to coordinate. Trench jackets and wrap coats or a classic. Nothing says classic vintage like the iconic wrap and trench coat so I had to give into my whelms and create Simplicity 8554 view C. This jacket has a cool laid back polish look and this particular view has a tie at the wrist that creates an interesting ruffled hem cuff. Hi! By the time this is posted on the blog, I may already have a newborn in my arms! This blog post and project have been some of the hardest for me to get done. I wanted to do them way in advance but ended up working on them at 38 weeks pregnant. Talk about pressure! I am usually very organized, but this time I’ve had to learn to pick my battles. So let me share the whole story. First battle: fabric and pattern choice. I first saw this beautiful heathered brushed sweater fabric in one of Julie’s videos on Fabric Mart’s Instagram . They looked so soft and light I thought I probably could use them even in the – almost inexistent – Floridian Fall and Winter. I waited about ten days to order them, knowing full well that they would have discounts at some point! And sure enough, they got into one of the excellent 65% off deals! I have seen more jackets & shackets last & this Fall more than ever. I love to layer things in the fall & a jacket is perfect for that! A jacket is not only made to be warm, but also can worn, or made to be very stylish.  For my most recent make, I decided to make a Ilford Jacket by Friday Pattern Company .  I really like this sewing pattern company, because their instructions are completely thorough and they also offer sew alongs online, which is perfect for people that might get stuck on a particular part. I knew going in that the material I chose wasn’t a heavy weight or even medium weight fabric & it turn would turn out more-so as a button up shirt. I loved this! Fall is finally in the air, and I couldn't be happier! The only issue that I'm currently having is that most of my fall clothes don't fit. I can thank my growing baby boy, due at the end of November for that!  For this fabricista blog, I set out to make a couple of items for fall that will carry me through my final months of pregnancy and beyond. One make to help me stay comfy, and the other, to have something a little more dressy that's warm.  In my last blog, I mentioned that my goal for this season of life is to make clothing that will be wearable during pregnancy and after. So with that in mind, I set out to make a couple of items for fall to love now and later.  For my comfy make, I used a super soft Gunmetal Lycra Heathered Sweatshirt Fleece Knit. I am definitely a summer and warm weather person – the hotter the better, in my book! This week is the first week in Colorado we’ve had some consistent fall temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s, so it’s unfortunately time to start putting away the shorts & sundresses and move into transitional fall layers.  I always grab some kind of jacket/layer when I leave the house and lately I’ve been wanting a dark denim jacket, but I only have a light wash denim or black, no in between. So, off to Fabric Mart I went and I started digging in my pattern stash!  I ended up picking up this gorgeous dark blue stretch denim on sale at Fabric Mart and found this McCall 7729 pattern that was perfect!  This pattern was SO easy to make! The pattern says average difficulty level, but I definitely think you could be a confident beginner and make this look great. The topstitching really adds a great polished finish. Hello again sewing friends!  October is here at long last, and the intoxicating emergence of cooler weather makes for my very favorite time of the year. I am more than ready to embrace the seasonal change! Long sleeves are back, and I love the idea of finally laying clothes again and wearing more than just the bare minimum to stay cool. I will say that I'm not entirely sold on the Cottage Core style despite growing up obsessed with Little House on the Prairie, but I do adore a voluminous linen dress when the mood strikes.  To celebrate the new season, I opted to sew the Romey Gathered Dress by Sew House Seven . I've sewn this beauty in the past, and I was even on the testing team, but I have yet to sew one in the fabric Romey was basically designed for, linen!
