Hi Fabric Mart Fans! For years now, my youngest has adored leopard print, so when she saw this fabric available in time for our next project, she was adamant that she needed it! My eldest on the other hand, was drawn to the bold floral print on Cotton Lycra Knit, which I thought would make a fabulous dress or capri length romper. Twelve year-olds have opinions though and after it arrived, she refused a dress and romper, so we compromised on shorts and a t-shirt.  With such drastically different fabrics, I decided to bring the looks together for this post by using the same patterns for each one. It’s amazing how different fabrics can change things up! Hello friends.  Do you love a wrap dress?  This is Byrd, your curvy sewist and I am back with my latest Fabricista make.  The re-release of DVF Diane von Furstenberg’s Wrap Dress has everyone pulling out their favorite wrap dress patterns.  The DVF was initially released in 1974 and re-issued earlier this year.  If you love a wrap dress, you will love the Friday Pattern Company Westcliff Dress .  It is a size-inclusive beginner-friendly faux wrap dress with a tie belt that runs from XS to 4X.  My Westcliff is sewn up in Fabric Mart’s cotton lycra painterly floral knit.   Fabric Mart’s cotton lycra is perfect for a spring or summer wrap dress.  It’s lightweight and breathable with a soft drape and excellent recovery. Despite having more than enough of them in my pattern collection, I’m always up for trying a new one. And I also have my favorites and tried and trues (TNTs). I love the versatility of a good tee pattern – dress it up with fancy fabrics to make a work wardrobe piece, use a high quality solid to add some basics, or anything in between. Today I’m sharing three patterns I’ve used multiple times and with many different kinds of fabrics - all a little different and all great beginner patterns too. Since I prefer to sew for my children, my own closet gets seriously neglected! I decided to put my own needs first for my Fabric Mart make this time, and create a pair of comfy shorts and two tops for ME!  I started by looking for bottom-weight fabric, and settled on some mid-weight stretch denim. I realized that all of my shorts patterns were for non-stretch fabrics, so I bought the Itch to Stitch Hermosa Shorts for this project. The Hermosa's come in three different lengths (short, mid, long) feature patch pockets on both front and back, and have options for a button or zipper fly.  I do usually shy away from making pants because I often have trouble with them, but the Hermosa's fit was pretty much perfect, and I'm eager to make more pairs in various lengths!  For this pair of Hermosa's I used my waist measurement (4) and blended out to between the 6 and 8 for my hip. Dee:  My beautiful Fabricista Make was made from a polyester linen blend floral print. The fabric has a somewhat crisp drape and is slightly textured. This woven fabric has no stretch and falls moderately from the body. The fabric laundered well with a gentle wash cycle using cool water. Simplicity S9099 was my pattern of choice. The skirt is cut on the bias with four pieces being attached to an asymmetrical bodice. These lines add to the elegant drape of the dress. The sleeves are raglan with a front and a back to the sleeve and a middle slit opening with a narrow hem accented by two buttons being position along the middle sleeve seam just above the slit in the sleeve opening.
