Fabric Mart Fabricistas

How is everyone in the northern hemisphere faring in the depths of summer? I always think I'm mentally prepared for the heat, but nope, I'm never actually ready to face it. For my latest Fabric Mart project, I chose an unrelated pair of fabrics, one woven and one knit, to create two new dresses that are elegant for the season since feeling refined in the gnarly heat is a tough assignment.  Both of my selected fabrics boast low-contrast prints, and really their similarities end there. I chose two contrasting and distinct styles to best flaunt these gorgeous fabrics. Both ITY and linen are great options to try and beat the heat, and wearing new frocks will certainly be a pick-me-up in the depths of August!  This Pewter Gray/Black Floral Silhouette Print ITY really caught my eye. Hello all! With summer on the horizon, I'm gearing up for the heat with some fabrics and styles to carry me through weekend trips and general running around in hot weather. No matter the temperature, I still aim to appear stylish and put together, at least, you know, most of the time. Fabric Mart's exclusive linen chambray is superb for this exact use! I requested two colors of the glorious lightweight yarn-dyed linen chambray. Putty is a cool-toned light gray that leans toward purple and taupe tones and the Medium Sky Blue is perhaps a little more self-explanatory. I have sewn with this base before, and I was just as delighted and impressed with these two colors as I have been in the past. I can't recommend them more, these are quite lightweight and very finely woven. They are sturdy with a very smooth face and have some body, but still maintain nice drape for linen. Most of you wouldn't be shocked if I told you that Fabric Mart is my favorite fabric shop. Even though I'm a Fabric Mart Fabricista, I promise I'm not biased! It is hard to beat the prices and the gorgeous stock of fabrics that Fabric Mart carries. Just when I thought Fabric Mart couldn't get any better, they started carrying Liberty of London fabric! Liberty fabric is notoriously high priced, but Fabric Mart has made it affordable! While it may still be a higher price per yard than your average fabric, it is still an amazing price for Liberty Fabric.  If you've never sewn or worn a garment made with Liberty tana lawn, then you're missing out on the softness and dreaminess of the fabric. Yes, it's 100% cotton, and yes, that doesn't seem like it would be dreamy to wear, but trust me, it is! Tana lawn is a lightweight fabric with a soft drape and a luxuriously soft finish. Hello, all! I find it positively lovely to be back on the Fabric Mart blog in 2023 sharing more sewing projects.  This round I wanted to create an outfit to ease me back into spring. As I shiver and type this, imagining nicer weather is a very uplifting thought! But for now I’m stuck with chilly (and gusty!) weather that makes taking photographs more of a challenge. When I began working on this project, I was still swirling with holiday sewing, and while I usually have my sewing projects planned down to the T in advance, this time I was much more up in the air and just had the most cursory of ideas, so I kind of put together a little kit for myself to work with.
