During my first Fabricista post in February 2021, I dedicated a make to the Pantone colors of the year: Illuminating (a yellow) and ultimate gray. I thought it would be fun to continue the tradition and dedicate this February’s make to the 2022 Color of the Year: Very Peri. This marks the first time Pantone has created a color for their Color of the Year series. Blue with violet-red undertones, Very Peri “displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions”. I’ve also been inspired by the recent trend of making quilt coats, so I thought I’d pair the two trends and make my own quilted coat. 2021 Trendwatch: Frozen for Fashion @nicoleangelinesews It is cold. Just so, so cold here in the Midwest. However, my winter sewing got away from me and so instead of being behind, I want to get ahead with some spring makes. Since this is my first post as a Fabricista, I got a little ambitious and wanted to hit a bunch of 2021 trends: Pantone colors of the year, pastels, and the trench. With these points in mind, I scoured the Fabric Mart website and thanks to their amazing variety, found exactly what I was looking for. These makes felt a little odd to plan in February, but once they were done, I started to get giddy for it to start warming up here in the Midwest. Which will probably be in May. If you are an avid reader of our blog, you may remember a post on Marsala: Pantone's 2015 color of the year. While Marsala is still a beautiful choice and will probably always be in style, it's now well into 2016 and we have a new Pantone's 2016 color of the year. Or should I say, colors?  Yes that's right. For the first time ever, Pantone chose not one, but two colors for 2016. At first glance, I didn't quite know how to feel about the combination. I'm probably not alone, either. In the end, it didn't take me long at all to fall in love. I found myself connecting to them effortlessly. Just looking at them brought feelings of peace & refreshment.  The names "Rose Quartz" & "Serenity" almost speak for themselves.  Did you know that rose quartz is the crystal of unconditional love? Spring seems like a far way off but really, it's just around the corner! Before we know it the birds will be singing and flowers will be in bloom. Nature comes to life again this time of year and fashion is taking its cue. This Spring's fashion meets minimalism with retro, folkloric styles. We're talking fringes, 70's Bohemian style dresses and big floral prints. But before we get into all that jazz, I'd like to show you the Spring 2015 Pantone Colors.  As you can see, there are pastels, neutrals, & darker more simple colors. Pantone's goal was to come up with colors that speak softly, remind us of nature, & provide simple comfort with the everyday hustle while being truly fashionable.
