Made by a Fabricista: The Pinstripe Wool Suiting Pulmu Skirt!

My Pulmu skirt (Named Patterns) in a wool/lurex pinstripe suiting Hi everybody! Fall has arrived and to kick off the season I played with some wool suiting, a fabric I haven't sewn with in a long time! Fabric Mart's website is literally bursting with gorgeous fabrics these days, and while browsing the wool section I came across a wonderful pinstripe wool suiting, which I thought would be a great pairing with the Pulmu skirt (Named Patterns). You just can't go wrong with a wool pencil skirt for fall! Pulmu skirt - side view Pulmu skirt - a view of the back, side panel and vent The pattern Pulmu skirt by Named Patterns - tech drawing I've been having the Pulmu skirt in a corner of my mind for some time - it features details that speak to me, such as the long triangular side panels, the side vents, the belt loops and a belt that closes with D rings (I always love hardware on a garment), not to mention that this pencil skirt is line...

Made by a Fabricista: Sewing for fall! A duster and striped top

Fall is my favorite season to sew for as I love the color palettes!  The fall was no exception with the lovely range of mustardy yellow, burgundy, etc.  Sorry about the indoor photos but with daylight savings time in the northern plains, it is dark before I get home from work.  In fact, it is dark when I leave for work too.  :( I so love the mustard vibe and the minute I saw this fabric, I knew exactly what I'd make, even if that meant copying the pattern envelope.  We all do that sometimes, right? So this Simplicity pattern has had my attention for a while.  It is super stylish and there are three very cute, completely different things to make.  I just wish I'd ordered more of the yellow as this stretch suiting would have been perfect for the wide legged trousers as well as the duster. If you are counting, that is photo 2 with my eyes closed.  Ugh. The length of this is awesome.  I am 5'7" and I think this is perfect...

Made by a Fabricista: Pieces of Plaids & a Few Ruffles

[This dress was made for and modeled by my daughter Mori] Hello All, it's good to be back. How about the competition? The ladies all did a great job and I want to welcome Marcia to the team! So I am getting back in the mix with a few pieces of plaid and a few other prints. Now you guys know how I am with the mixing of the prints and with is s wild one right here. I mixed the two plaids with a stripe and a little flower power. [Flower print not from Fabric mart and I couldn't find the stripe fabric online]               Now I'm going to let you guys in on my thought process with this dress.  I ordered two prints that could go together and then I ordered two prints that you would never think to put with these plaid prints. I did not let myself think about how they did not match I was just going to use all four  prints. I had already chosen the pattern for the project McCall's 7537, which was a few different views but I was go...

Made by a Fabricista: A Little Fall Sewing

Are you a current-season sewer?  Or like me, do you also like to create some garments for the upcoming season?  I like to do both!  For this month, I wanted to make a few transitional garments and when I found this gorgeous boucle, I knew exactly what I wanted to make!   Unfortunately the fabric I used is sold out, but here are some other options for you:  Boucle Fabric   One of the things that make boucle fabrics so wonderful to work with is the natural fiber content(s). I am a huge fan of using natural fibers when I can and this one is a wool and cotton blend. (Although you can find some beautiful boucle fabrics with synthetic blends too.) Here are links to the two patterns I used: Lorie Jacket by StyleArc Fringe Skirt by Angela Wolf Both called for the use of Boucle so it was a win-win! For the jacket, I interlined the entire body of the garment using fusible mediumw...

Made by a Fabricista: DIY Wrap Shirt Tutorial

[This DIY wrap shirt was made for and modeled by my daughter Mori] So the plans with this month's post went left when I wanted it to go right. Once we put the outfit on, it looked like pajamas and I just couldn't. Although they looked like very nice looking pajamas, it was pajamas no the less. The rest of that fabric will be for another date and time. SOooooo although Fabric Mart does not have anymore denim right now, but I still wanted to post this DIY wrap shirt tutorial. I have seen this wrap shirt several times on Pinterest and several versions but I didn't see any made in denim. You know how much I love working with denim, so denim it was.  I pinned Hartfabrics.com version to my DIY'd board and that is what I used, with a few modifications.  Most of the tutorials that I saw called for one yard of fabric, 44 inches wide and the shirts ties at the waist. But I wanted a longer version of this top. Supplies: 1 yard fabric [I used 54 inch wide denim] ...
