Fabric Mart Fabricistas

Hello friends,  I’m Byrd, and today I’m excited to share my latest Fabricista project with you—an oversized button-front shirt made from the Know Me Pattern ME2052, sewn using a gorgeous 100% Tencel sand-washed  challis  from Fabric Mart called “Chalkboard Black.” This shirt has quickly become one of my go-to wardrobe staples for fall, thanks to its versatility and classic design. One of my favorite things about this oversized shirt is its versatility, especially as we transition into cooler weather. In the first photo, I’ve paired the shirt with wide-leg pants, which I think is perfect for fall. I used New Look 6271 for the pants. The loose, flowy fit of both the shirt and pants creates a relaxed but put-together outfit that I can wear just about anywhere. In the second photo, I’m wearing the shirt layered over a jumpsuit. The weather is getting hot and I've definitely been in full summer wardrobe mode since the first day of June. There are so many fun styles and trends to get into this season and let's not forget all the fabulous summer fabrics to choose from. Of course we are talking about our light to medium weight breathable cottons, linens voiles and batiste fabrics because those are my go-to fabrics for the summer. For this month's Fabricista feature I had to share one of my favorite styles for the season and that’s the bubble and puff trend. Hi everyone!  By the time this post goes live, tomorrow will be my birthday!! So, this is a birthday dedicated post!!  Typically, my birthday always falls on or around Memorial Day Weekend so there is always something to do. For this post I challenged myself to make 3 pieces as I am always building my wardrobe.  I now have a closet that is about 90% handmade.  I love the theme in May as Me Made May where sewists post handmade looks every day for the entire month.  I think it’s helpful to see what you have and what you can build upon in your closet.  I would sew a lot of non-practical garments, as gorgeous as they were, I could not wear them day to day and found myself mostly sewing for social media posts.  That has since changed, and I am pretty much #memadeeveryday! We’re in full bloom for Spring with my new fabricista feature for this month! I’m kicking off the season with one of my favorite Spring KnowMe patterns ME2027. This Fabric Mart viscose challis fabric is the perfect fabric for Spring and I love a floral on a black background. It’s giving me bold retro vibes and I'm definitely here for it. When you think of Spring you think of florals, colors and lighter weighted fabrics. This fabric is giving it all. I love the bold large scale print flowers up against the black canvas. The fabric is viscose challis fabric so it has a natural soft drapey feel to it which makes it great for spring dresses, skirts, jumpers and blouses.  For this project I chose to create a version of my KnowMe Spring 2023 Jumpsuit pattern. It had the retro vibe to compliment this fabric and I love the way it turned out. I omitted the trims for this make and made it one solid fabric. Denim is definitely one of my favorite fabrics to wear during the fall, more than any other season. I'm sharing my first denim project for Fall 2023 in this months Fabricista feature because let's be real, its one of the most iconic fabrics ever, its always in style and most everything can be made with denim. This denim is Fabric Marts Deep Prussian Blue 100% Cotton Denim, and it was the perfect fabric for this project. I really enjoyed working with this denim. It had a little more drape and body than most denims that are stiff and don't provide much give, but of course that's the good thing about denim, it comes in so many ranges which makes it clearly the best fabric for any project. I created a hack for my most recent Fall KnowMe pattern, ME2054. Hello Gems! For this month's Fabricista feature I’ve chosen a beautiful bold red suiting fabric from Fabric Mart.  I set out to make a two piece that would carry over to Fall but the weather has been so hot lately that I decided to lean more into shorts instead.  What can I say, I can’t let go of Summer just yet! Nevertheless, I love this bold red, it works for any season and it never goes out of style. The fabric is a light to medium weight fabric. It's perfect for suiting, blazers, pants and dresses, and the quality is superb! If you follow my creations on social media you guys know I love my cargo and utilitarian details. This trend is still going strong and I wanted to bring these features into this look. With that in mind I wanted to create something using my Early Spring Know Me pattern ME2020.
