Made by a Fabricista: Fun Fabrics

I am so happy to still be a part of the Fabricista Blogger Team. I joined in the middle of the pandemic and have really enjoyed myself as a blogger.  Fabric Mart has truly been my go to place for shopping for fabulous fabrics that reflect my style.  I love that I get to shop deadstock fabric that will help give fabrics additional lifespan and fabric is typically limited quantities so you will be part of the few with that fabric.  As someone who is big on individuality this is such a plus for me.

Can we also talk about the great sales that Fabric Mart runs?  I literally stalk the site daily to find new fabrics and catch the featured sales.  During one of my daily visits to the site I came across this gorgeous corduroy fabric with a unique animal print.  At the time I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to make with it but I just knew I had to use this for my next featured make.  I was also able to get matching thread, another feature I love about Fabric Mart so I can get right to sewing my project.

I decided to make ME2069 View B for the pants.  I hadn’t made pants in awhile and figured I could use a cool pair to add to my wardrobe. The pattern is a wide leg of pants with a front fly zip and waistband.  Being 5’9 I added 3 inches to my length and about 1.5” to my back rise for a better fit.  Pants are my favorite thing to make and this was such a satisfying sew.

This fabric was great to sew with, very soft, lightweight and easy to press.  It is also very comfortable and warm when worn, perfect for this unpredictable Texas weather.  I still have a little under a yard left and I am considering making a baseball cap or vest to go with the pants.

Remember when you see a fabric you like grab it as soon as you can as it is sure to be gone!

Made By A Fabricista: From My Imagination to My Closet

One of my favorite parts of sewing is taking an idea that exists only in my head and turning it into something I can actually wear. This project was exactly that—a quick, intuitive exercise in imagination, experimentation, and trusting my process, brought to life with Fabric Mart’s sweatshirt fleece. I started with a loose concept rather than a fixed plan. I knew I wanted something comfortable, but still fashion-forward—elevated loungewear that felt intentional rather than basic. Fabric choice was key, and Fabric Mart’s sweatshirt fleece ended up being the perfect foundation. Working with Fabric Mart Sweatshirt Fleece This fleece was an absolute dream to work with. It has a slight stretch, which made the final outfit incredibly comfortable while still maintaining structure. After pre-washing, the fabric held up beautifully with no pilling or texture issues, which is always a big win. It sewed smoothly and handled like a fabric that wants to be worn, not babied. Safe to say, I’m offici...

Made By A Fabricista: Three Methods to Explore Colorblocking

Hey sewing friends! As I pondered what sort of plan to tackle for my next wintry project, a new and glorious array of rainbow Polartec fabrics filled the Fabric Mart site. I’ve enjoyed sewing with this brand’s fabrics for many years now, and I’m all too happy to add some more to my wardrobe.  I picked two of my favorite types, the Power Air Grid Double Knit and the Power Grid Fleece.  Choosing a few colors in matching weights to combine them into something totally me sounded perfect. Look at this stunning heap!  When I’m sewing two different fabrics together, I prefer to use the same weight and type so that they behave similarly and hang well together. Any extra piecing like this also creates topstitching opportunities galore! (You already know I’m all about that available thread matching.) In this case, I opted for three colors in each of the two fabric varieties I mentioned above for the best combining results.  I figured I’d dive in with a brief overview of how y...
