Hi Fabric Mart Fans! One of my very favorite things about Fabric Mart is being able to snap up some totally amazing deals - and this month I definitely scored one of those! When I noticed a shipment of Liberty of London Tana Lawn had been added to the site AND was on sale, I KNEW it had to become my next project! This is such a beautiful fabric to sew and wear - it's lightweight, has a crisp hand, is tightly woven, and feels sooo nice! I decided to get 2.5 yards to create a beautiful sleeveless dress with double circle skirt for my eldest! I used the  Peony Patterns Freesia  - the twirl is fantastic, the dress is fairly straightforward to sew, and the print on the fabric makes it so feminine and pretty! One of the easiest ways to finish a circle skirt is with a bias binding facing. Hello Sewing Friends! I have been eyeing the linens offered by Fabric Mart (There Are So Many!) and knew for my fall make I wanted to use linen.  After all, I live in a state where linen is appropriate year-round. Today’s Fabricista make and blog post is all about my fall linen “suit”!    On my Pinterest board, I had saved an image of a blue suit as I liked the look. However,  I have no need for a suit and certainly didn’t wish to waste my sewing time on something that would not be worn. Realizing what I liked best about the look was the bold color, I browsed through the blue fabrics on the Fabric Mart website waiting for something to jump out at me. Suddenly, there it was.  Exactly what I envisioned for my blue suit.  A bold, royal blue 100% mid-weight linen . Well, hello again!  This marks my 3rd Fabricista blog.  I’ve completed a spring and summer look for the last two blogs.  So, since summer is ending and fall is quickly approaching, I decided to make a pattern that could be worn in cooler weather.  I’ve been wanting to make Vogue pattern V8825. This pattern is a tunic dress and pants.  I made the dress.  What I love about this pattern is the sleeves!  The sleeves are a bell shape but gather to fit into a barrel cuff.  The dress has a short and long version.  I chose the longer one.  I am always cold, so this length is what works best for me. The pattern calls for two-way stretch knits: rayon, spandex, cotton spandex, or wool spandex. I chose a deep purple, crepe double knit.  The color is gorgeous!  It reminded me of an eggplant.  This is a 4-way stretch knit but it still worked.  It is just like it sounds.  A knit fabric with a crepe texture on one side and a smooth texture on the other.  I believe the smooth side was the right side, l

This was another one of those times when I saw the fabric and instantly knew what it needed to become. I've wanted to do book-themed garments for a while and Bryce Quinlan's Autumn Ball dress from House of Sky and Breath was an excellent place to start. While the book gave a good description of the dress, it also left much up to interpretation. The key details were 1. a plunging neckline. 2. a mermaid skirt. 3. high slit. I eventually landed on a bustier style top because I've been wanting one for a while, and it really felt like it fit with her character. I had no idea what I was doing 90% of the time which made this one of the most stressful builds I've done in a while. But it also taught me a lot. When I make a dress like this in the future, I will definitely be looking up a few tutorials to make sure I get all the supports right. In the end, this was one of the most rewarding projects I've done. I was able to do something new and felt amazing in this dress. 10/1

Hello again!   I want to share with you my latest project using silky prints. My family had been planning to go to the Virgin Islands for a vacation. For this trip I wanted loose-fitting outfits. When the summer Vogue patterns were released, I fell in love with the vintage Vogue V1886 caftan. It is ankle length and the sleeves fell elegantly to the hemline, hitting the arm slightly above the elbows. It has a scooped back, which would make it comfortable in hot weather. There are side panels, but no seams. I could wear this relaxing under an umbrella during the day or for an evening stroll to enjoy the breeze on the beach. FM’s polyester lightweight charmeuse silky prints caught my eye. Even though I swore I would never again sew slippery fabrics, the coastal mountain print on the fabric (SKU UQA7666r) was hard to resist.  The moonstone blue/berry pink/medium blue/taupe were cool relaxing colors. When I first started sewing I quickly realized the size I was cutting out in shirts and dresses wasn’t fitting my shoulders.  Why you may ask? I was only measuring according to my bust measurement which made my tops too big in the shoulders. After some research and asking in Facebook groups I learned I needed to do a Full Bust Adjustment on all of my patterns.  I watched tons of videos and read books on how to do a FBA and I found one way that continues to be my favorite way to this fit adjustment.  The pivot and slide method has become my go to for every FBA I do.  In this video I walk you through the steps to help you get the right fit for your bust area.
