“All’s well that ends well” That phrase popped into my head (in my mother’s voice of course) as I sewed the last stitch on this two-piece dress.  Why, might you ask?  Because I made so many silly sewing mistakes along the way.  Hello Sewing Friends! As we slowly (very slowly) start to leave winter behind, I am starting to resent my heavy coats and crave light and flowy garments. So what better way to summon Spring than this airy little gem of a blouse!  The fabric is a delightful silk cotton voile that floats mid-air like a feather as it drapes around you, truly whimsical and exactly what I was looking for!  I had never sewn anything this fine or sheer before, and even though it wasn't as daunting as the internet made it out to be, I certainly learned a lot in the process. For instance, I found myself paying closer attention to my sewing machine settings and for once I actually swapped my universal sewing needle for the more appropriate microtex needle. Also, the fraying was legendary and unfortunately I didn't realize until I had already lost ¼ of an inch around the hem. When I saw a sleek pink mini skirt adorned with a dramatic 3D flower on Pinterest, I was immediately inspired. It had that perfect balance of playfulness and polish—something I knew I wanted to recreate with my own spin. Rather than replicate the exact look, I adapted the silhouette into something more wearable for my lifestyle using a vibrant stretch tweed fabric from Fabric Mart. The Skirt: From Pinterest to Personalized For my version, I used Butterick 5446—a tried-and-true pencil skirt pattern—as the base. I swapped out the smooth fabric from the inspiration for a neon stretch tweed, which adds structure and visual texture while still being comfortable to wear. The oversized flower detail is what makes this piece stand out, and it was surprisingly simple to make. Everywhere I look while writing this, I see blue. Blue walls, blue flowers, blue fabric, and blue clothes. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have a deep affection for blue hues, and no amount of blue is too much. It’s no surprise that I recently fell in love with two new blue fabrics on the Fabric Mart website that I simply had to have!  The first blue-hued fabric I ordered was a cobalt, 100% cotton, double border, embroidered, geometric eyelet voile . I loved the geometric pattern of the embroidered eyelet and envisioned a fun summer blouse featuring the eyelet border at the hem of the shirt and sleeves.  The second blue-hued fabric I found was a slate blue 100% cotton retro floral print canvas fabric. I loved the bright white blooms on a slate blue background. I pictured a pair of fun shorts, but I wasn’t sure which pattern to use, so I ordered two yards. Happy New Year! I am excited to be back blogging in 2023 with Fabric Mart.  Over the past few weeks, I spent quite some time reflecting on what truly brings me joy and a personalized form of self-care. Sewing was on the top of the list and I truly enjoy making my own clothing.  During the winter break, I wanted to create some basic looks that I can jazz up for a wedding or rock on date night.  When I read Johanna’s  blogpost and came across the Vogue 1835 pattern that she made last month, I saw endless possibilities with the pattern.  I knew it was perfect to hack to make a mini, midi or maxi dress and a staple pattern to have. My original plan with the lycra foil printed knit ( here ) fabric was to make a formal infinity wrap dress that I saw on instagram.  I will be attending a formal event later this month and felt it was perfect.
