Made by a Fabricista: A Tale of Two Flannel Shirts

I have always loved flannels shirts. They have come and gone and come back in style at least once in my young life. And I'm sure it will come and go a few times as life goes on! When I bought some flannel shirting fabric for the website, it got me really excited about making my own flannel shirt! You can find cotton flannels basically everywhere, but I'm a bit picky at the kind I like. I like a yarn-dyed flannel. This means that the color is in the thread, NOT printed. Flannel can also be printed, which you find a lot in quilting flannels. Plus the great thing about garment quality flannels is that they can sometimes come in up to 60" wide. That means you get more bang for your buck!  The flannels I used are both from our website. The red/black check plaid is from Julie's Picks . The blue/green/red plaid is currently on our website HERE . If it's not available when you click on it, check out our flannel section HERE .  I had heard a lot of good things about G...

Pretty Peplum Tops Revealed!!

Wow! I'm so happy with the number of people that participated in the Pretty Peplum Top Sew Along! From the sound of it, it was fun for everyone and you all learned something! After reading the comments, it was interesting to see how much the pattern had to be brought in. I think that is the beauty of Pamela's Patterns--- she leaves a little extra space because everyone's bodies are different. So by trying it on as you go, you can take the extra out of it and still have a nice fitting garment in the end.  Thank you to everyone that participated in the sew along! Also a BIG thank you goes out to Pamela from Pamela's Patterns! She not only created the Pretty Peplum top, but she also answered your questions!  As you know, participants that submitted a photo by March 5, were entered into a drawing. One randomly selected person will win a $100 gift certificate to Fabric Mart AND a $30 gift certificate to Pamela's Patterns! And without further ado...let's revea...

Made By A Fabricista: Sew House Seven Mississippi Ave Dress

Oh, c'mon people, let's make believe it's time to walk barefoot in the sand on the beach!  I sewed this sweet little hot pink twill rayon challis  dress during a record breaking cold spell so there was no way on this frozen tundra of earth I was going outside to take photos in this dress.  So squint your eyes and think "white, sandy beaches".  I've been quite curious about the Sew House Seven patterns --- they have a feminine and casual appeal.  No one has really talked much about them in the sewing blogosphere, so I was super exited to sew up their Mississippi Avenue Dress  that Fabric Mart has in stock.      The pattern itself comes in a nice paper envelope comparable to the Big 4 companies' envelopes.  The instruction booklet is in black and white with these really nice illustrations.  I was pleasantly surprised.  They're very detailed.  I agree with this pattern being labeled "beginner", it was a breeze...

Fringes, Florals, & Pastels Oh My! Your Guide To Spring 2015 Fashion

Spring seems like a far way off but really, it's just around the corner! Before we know it the birds will be singing and flowers will be in bloom. Nature comes to life again this time of year and fashion is taking its cue. This Spring's fashion meets minimalism with retro, folkloric styles. We're talking fringes, 70's Bohemian style dresses and big floral prints. But before we get into all that jazz, I'd like to show you the Spring 2015 Pantone Colors.  As you can see, there are pastels, neutrals, & darker more simple colors. Pantone's goal was to come up with colors that speak softly, remind us of nature, & provide simple comfort with the everyday hustle while being truly fashionable. If you want to read more about each color and their perfect color pairs, please refer to the Pantone's Fashion Color Report Of Spring 2015   http://www.pantone.com/pages/fcr/?season=spring&year=2015&pid=11 Now let's take a look at some of the t...
