Made By A Fabricista: Having Fun with Paint Print Fabrics

Hi Guys! I’m back!  I know I said my goodbyes in my last post, but I was asked to stay on and of course I said yes!  I love all things cute and comfortable so the pattern I picked for this month falls right in line with the theme.  I selected to use Simplicity 9394 which came out last fall.  Simplicity Sewing Pattern S9394 Boys' and Girls' Oversized Knit Hoodies, Pants and Tops. I’m the type of girl who loves options and this pattern delivers on that.  The top has two views, the hoodie has two views and the pants have 2 views.  I love patterns that make up an entire outfit.  I decided to make my son view A which is the long sleeve shirt and I made view D which is the sleeveless hoodie.  The pattern sizing is XS-XL but I got a little concerned when I saw the back of the pattern measurements.  His chest measurement wasn’t even on the size chart.  I opened the pattern to see the finished measurement and realized this pattern has a lot of ea...

Made By A Fabricista: Sew House 7 Toaster Sweaters

Here's hoping 2022 is treating you well thus far, sewing friends! I took a short break from sewing over the holidays, a lovely general breather, and I enjoyed planning some projects in the relaxed interim. While the weather remains chilly in California, I'm very happy to plan more temperature-appropriate tops to stay warm. I was poking around in the Patterns section on the site, and wow, has that grown! I generally sew PDF patterns that I print myself, but there is definitely appeal to just opening a pretty envelope and cutting right away. In perusing through the available selection, I realized some fabulous familiar designers are in the mix and I thought I might as well add to my arsenal.  Off the bat, I will say I already adore Sew House Seven's patterns. I've sewn and tested a few, and they are indeed treasures. Everything fits together so nicely and has beautiful lines, and the instructions and illustrations leave no questions during the process. Nearly every SH7 ...

Made By A Fabricista: Feeling Festive

Hello and happy New Year!  Feeling very optimistic about 2022 and what’s to come.  I saw this gorgeous sequin knit fabric and wanted to use it as part of my first post for 2022! Let me tell you when I received it, it was even more gorgeous than I had imagined online.  The pictures didn’t do it justice!  It’s a bunch of colorful sequin palettes backed by a larger gold palette. This sequin was sewn on a mesh knit making it extra stretchy.  Most times when working with sequin you will have to remove the sequins that are within your seam allowance.  This can be a bit of a time-consuming task but it’s much better than breaking your machine needles!  To remove my sequins, I used my curved embroidery scissors.  This works well because the blade curves up preventing you from cutting into your fabric.  This also helps speed up the process.  As far as tips with marking out your seam allowance you can either eyeball it or baste along your seam all...

Made By A Fabricista: Batch Sewing Wardrobe Basics: Simple Winter Dresses

Hello Sewing Friends! I hope everyone is enjoying a great start to their new year.  This is often the time that many of us sit and set goals and plans for what we want to accomplish during the year.  I know I've set my goals for all aspects of life and I'm excited about what I have set as goals specifically with sewing. Now I am still on my mission to sew chic yet comfortable clothes, given my current work from home situation. In 2022, I plan to replace many of my Ready to Wear items in my closet that are out of style or don't fit well with handmade items. I have several very comfortable and casual dresses that I am just not that excited about. So for this Fabricista project, I decided to batch sew several replacment dresses. I really like batch sewing patterns that are tried and true. I took a leap on the pattern that I chose because it was new to me. But I could tell by the cover that this would be a great option for the simple yet stylish dress I was going for.  I pick...

Made By A Fabricista: Sweater Obsession

It’s been a while since I have sewn with a sweater knit, and now I think I seriously have a Sweater Obsession going on. This Michigan weather absolutely calls for a cozy sweater but why not look comfy and cute all at the same time.   I’m completely in love with this Thick Rib Sweater Knit fabric in the color Heathered Cream . I love a beautiful cream color in the winter months and to combine it with a sweater knit, makes it perfect. If you are like me and tend to get hot quickly, this fabric is for you. While it is labeled as a thick sweater knit, it is not very thick at all, making it easy to wear under coats and jackets all while still being perfect for anyone looking to make a sweater with this fabric. This fabric is so soft and while it is not a thicker sweater knit in my opinion, it still seems to hold it stretch pretty well.  I chose to use my own self-drafted dress pattern and jazz it up a bit by adding a cute Bolero/Shrug . I have had the Butterick 5797 in my p...
