At Fabric Mart: Planning A Trip to Fabric Mart

Fabric Mart is a small business located in Sinking Spring, PA.
We are just outside of Reading, PA and about a an 1.5 hr drive from Philadelphia.
As an organization of 17 people we offer fabric online, retail and wholesale.
You can find great deals on designer fabrics such as Maggy London and several NYC Designers.

Why Visit:
Touch and Feel the online fabrics and purchase them right in the store.
We have four rooms of fabric including wools, silks, cottons, knits, etc. You are sure to find something!
Shop the clearance section in the retail store to find great deals on quality fabrics.  
Some as low as $1.00 per yard!
We have a few lucky finds every now and then, like these designer buttons for 50% off!
And your basic notions
And even Gutermann thread to match!

Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time if you are planning to visit. Most of our out of town guests spend at least two hours shopping!

Most of the fabric can also be found online.
You can shop before you visit and print a list of your favorites. We will help you find those items when you get here.

Please be prepared if you would like to visit us our shop can be overwhelming because our building is organized for processing online orders. Therefore there are not specific sections you will find certain types of fabric. Everything is mixed together and you might need to check out our website for assistance on pricing and content information. The ladies in the store would be glad to help you find your way through and get you set up. You are welcome to use your smartphone or iPad to help you shop, however at this time we do not offer Wifi.

But we assure you it will be worth it!

Most of our guests choose to do a mixture of browsing, purchasing, and lunch.
So we made a list of our favorite local places to grab a bite to help you plan as well as a few other places you might want to check out in the area.

Where to go for lunch:
Tomcat Cafe- A jazz cafe within walking distance that serve unique and delicious breakfast items including stuffed french toast, crepes, and a variety of awesome omelets. It's a Fabric Mart favorite! Check out the Facebook to see pictures of their specials. They will make you drool.
Railroad House- Tasty American bar food a short drive from Fabric Mart. Grab a drink and a burger!
Cafe Bold- Try one of their BOLD cakes and a coffee!
Haute Chocolate- Everything chocolate and yummy in a modern cafe.
Taste of Crepes- Sweet and Savory crepes in a European atmosphere.
Say Cheese!- A Stock of Gourmet cheese as well as seating to enjoy entrees made with of course, cheese!

Paradise by the Slice- A pizza bar a few minutes down Rt. 422. Delicious pizza and other sit down meals!

Sublime Cupcakes- Gourmet cupcakes. They have different flavors for each day of the week, all that are worth trying.

West Reading Shops- A street of boutiques and several cafes and restaurants listed above! Take some time to stroll through handmade items, designer clothing, and other unique shops.
Bell Tower- A local high-end spa that is sure to make you feel relaxed and glamorous! Check out their specials!

Five and Divine- Handmade accessories and decorative items creatively displayed. Take some time to browse! They have tons of awesome gifts including lotions, soaps, candles, baby items, jewerly, and several other handmade items. Check them out and have them demonstrate their chalk paint!

    I love visiting the store! It's always a treat! And you're right people should plan to make a day trip out of it to fully experience all of the treasures that the store has to offer!

    Some years ago I was on a work trip and found out I was about 15 minutes away. Got directions and came over. Everything in the store was on sale for $1 yard!! I bought 20-30 yards and had to buy another suitcase to bring it home!

You may have noticed that Fabric Mart has a *HUGE* selection of silk taffeta right now.  A lot of it is either large plaid or large stripes.   I was curious about it, and not really sure what I could make with it, but I just knew it would be gorgeous fabric and had to play around with it.  Turns out, it's actually great for quite a range of projects!  The dress above is my third project. Let me show you the first two. My first was to make some queen size pillow shams.  They are the plaid ones in the back of the photo.  I also made the two printed ones in the center from another Fabric Mart home dec fabric special!  I wanted to make the covers removable with a zipper, and include a braided trim.  As luck would have it, I found a whole card of braided trim at an estate sale that worked with my taffeta for just $2! A Yard And Change

Do you have a fabric that you love and has been hanging around but is too small to use? Maybe you found a wonderful fabric with a super cute print but there's only a yard left.  I've got a few projects I worked on all with roughly a yard of fabric. And I have a few tips for making that yard and change go further! Cutting Layout: You can get a lot more mileage out of a yard of fabric if you can get creative with how you lay out your fabric. Cutting things single layer will give you the most control. My favorite thing to do is unfold the fabric and fold the selvages in to meet in the middle. That gives me two folded edges to work with. I had to overlap these to get enough width for the tank top. Just make sure that your pattern pieces don't also overlap!  This one was especially fun for me because I really loved the print on this swimwear knit but am not yet up to sewing swimwear. Made By A Fabricista: Burnside Bibs

Hi everyone, this is Byrd with my latest Fabricista make! If you’re looking for the perfect handmade piece for spring and summer travel, these just might be it. This time around I’m sewing up the Burnside Bibs by Sew House Seven using Fabric Mart’s gorgeous Aquamarine/Umber Brown 100% Cotton Floral Artisan Batiks Jungle Dreams by Robert Kaufman. From the moment I saw this fabric, I was completely drawn in by the colors. The combination of aquamarine, brown, and cream feels both earthy and vibrant, making it perfect for warm weather sewing. I immediately knew it would make an incredible spring or summer garment. I’m a longtime fan of Robert Kaufman fabrics and always appreciate the quality and artistry behind the prints. As always, and especially because this is 100% cotton, I gave the fabric a thorough wash and dry before cutting into it.
