Like the pop culture weekly, Who Wore it Best, we want to know who made it best.
One pattern, 9 designers!
9 Seamstresses will compete in this challenge.
You will have one week to complete this challenge.
Challenge: Using the pattern that we have selected for you, create a unique garment that reflects your personality. You can alter the pattern or add to the pattern to make it more you. Think of one of two words that describe you to inspire your look.
This challenge will be judged on creativity, craftsmanship, how well represented your two words are in your design, difficulty, and fit.
The winner will receive Free Shipping on (2) future orders on Fabricmartfabrics.com



Salme is an independent pattern company that offers PDF patterns.
 You receive your pattern quickly and just need to print at home, cut and sew!

    Personally I think this pattern (as presented) would only work for a young woman with a young girl figure. That said I am anxious to see how the mature women contestants adapt and create their garments as this will surely be a challenge!

      We choose this pattern as a challenge. We want to see how the older women make this piece more mature and how they alter it to fit them. It was not meant to be easy!

    wow that is going to be quite a challenge. The ladies are all different shapes and sizes and this style really won't work on all of them as is. I look forward to seeing how the clever sewists adapt this pattern/style to work for them. some larger ladies may find this one harder to pull off than those who can wear a waisted style which has a definite 'young' look to it.

    I think this contest challenge is a great idea, however this dress pattern for challenge #2 is a poor choice IMHO. The dress is geared for a young woman or girl not a mature woman. I am only glad that you have the wisdom to allow for contestants to change/alter the pattern as presented. I'm anxious to see what these talented woman produce.

How are the temps still so hot?! I’m trying to make the best out of a blazing situation with a gorgeous swishy dress made in a splendid graphic print in an attempt to keep my cool when I am very much not. Fall + Flannel = Shacket

Sewing With Intention: New Look 6106 and a More Coordinated Wardrobe

Sometimes a sewing project begins with a beautiful piece of fabric or a pattern you just have to make. This one began with my closet. Recently, I did a major closet purge. I took a good look at what I actually wear, what I kept reaching for, and—maybe more importantly—what was missing. Once the pieces I no longer loved or wore were gone, something became very clear: I want to be more intentional about what I sew next. Instead of sewing individual pieces that I love but don't necessarily wear together, I want to build a wardrobe where my handmade garments coordinate with the clothes I already own—and with the pieces I'm planning to sew next. For this month's Fabricista project, this beautiful lightweight shirting from Fabric Mart turned out to be a wonderful place to start. Two fantastic linen dresses, without breaking the bank!

 Dory's Make: If you are thinking of going on a vacation, let’s say Italy or France, this would be a wonderful dress to take along. Dory used Simplicity 0330/1810  (a 2012 pattern) and a beautiful 55% linen 45% rayon fabric to create a very comfortable cornflower blue floral dress.  The Fabric Mart fabric was easy to work with. It does have a slight slub to the fabric and tends to ravel.  Easy to fix with either overlocking the edges or using a french seam.   This dress has pleats in the bodice and pleats in the sleeves as well as two darts in the back where you stitch your belt into.  It’s not a difficult make.  There are no buttons or zippers.  The V neck is a perfect length, not too low or too high.  I love this fabric and hope to make some other clothes out of the same kind!  Dee's Make: A woven linen and rayon blend from Fabric Mart fabrics makes for an easy-to-wear, comfortable, colorful fall dress!     Simplicity 88...
