Challenge: Using the fabric we have selected for you, challenge yourself by making a unique garment and working with a material you may not have used before to create one well-made garment. You can use a pattern of you choice to construct your garment.
You will be judged on creativity, functionality, craftsmanship, and fit.
The winner will receive (3) Patterns on YOUR Choice from fabricmartfabrics.com

  3. Hi Sylvia,

This challenge is only open to the last few contestants that were selected to be in the challenge. It is not an open challenge. Although doing an open challenge someday sound like an interesting idea...will have to give that some thought!

Made by a Fabricista: Cafe au Lait Linen Dress

Hello everyone. This linen dress is the first thing that I made after my husband passed away 2 months ago.  At first, it was a real struggle- I kept putting things together the wrong way and having to rip it out and do it over again.  I probably shouldn't have chosen an asymmetrical design with fabric that looks the same on both sides for my first project!  But as I finished, I felt a real sense of accomplishment!  I have to say that creating something unique and special was just what I needed to feel a little like myself again.   I used three coordinating pieces of linen- a deep coffee colored brown, a milky cream, and an abstract print with whipped cream, cloves, and cinnamon it- thus, my cafe au lait dress!  These particular fabrics are no longer available, but there are lots of other choices in the Linen section.  Linen is so wonderful to work with.  You do need to accept that wrinkles will be part of the look though, which I am fine with.  For the pattern, I used Vogue 1694 wh…

Made by a Fabricista: Winter is coming!

When I was browsing on Fabric Mart's amazing selections, I couldn't help but drool over the gorgeous coating by Michael Kors.  I love the designer fabric choices on the website.  Also, the price point of this amazing fabric made this a no-brainer for me.  I simply had to make another winter coat.   I live in the northern plains of the US and we can have winter coat weather from October until April or May.  That means, I need to have many choices for a winter coat.  Just having one or two is boring in my book!  I have numerous coats, most of which are made from FM's selection of coating.
It appears this Michael Kors Coating color I used is all sold out, however there are some pretty choices here: Coating

You can see from the inside of the hood, I used a pretty floral for the lining.  I just love pretty lining fabrics.  This one has so many pretty colors in it and it's a floral, so it was love for me!

Here's a view of the inside.  Isn't that just pretty?  Please do…
