Reader's Pick Sew-Along: The BIG Reveal!!

I am so impressed by the number of people that have participated in the sew-along for New Look 6097. For our first sew-along together-- I'm so happy! Everyone seemed to really enjoy this and hopefully we can continue doing other sew-alongs. If you're just coming into this, you can learn more about the sew-along HERE.

All of these ladies are so talented! We hashed out some ideas on our Flickr Discussion Board and in comments on the blog. I think we all had fun trying to hash out our problems and suggestions.

Plus, all participants were entered in a random drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to Fabric Mart. And the winner is...

Would you like to do another sew-along in the future? What would you like to sew?

  1. It was fun, I wish I had been able to keep up with it as it went along better, but the next one I think I will. I enjoyed working with knits for the first time, and finding knit interfacing (which I didn't know existed). I have always sewn on silky dress fabrics. I guess for another sew along, I would still like to do a dress again, they are my favorites.

  3. Congratulations Dara! :)

I would love to do another sew along! As far as what, I'm game for about anything that isn't too complicated. While I'm not a beginner learning to read a pattern, I'm not ready for a tailored jacket quite yet LOL! Getting to vote from a selection of a few patterns worked well. I'll need to think about what to suggest.

  5. Thank you for featuring me. :) I had such a blast sewing along.

LOVE the other versions, and my next one will be inspired by the ones I see above.

BTW, I received that fabric that Missy used in my last fabric bundle. I love the fabric as a dress, so pretty. I think I may go sleepwear but only because that fabric is so SO soft!

I would love to do a swimsuit sewalong, but that is because I want to sew one up for the pool this summer.

But maybe a swim coverup would be a good project or a great pair of shorts?

    1. I too have a swimsuit on my list of possible sew-ups. I'm just not sure where to start. I bought a great swimsuit fabric on a trip to Miami in January. Now I have to put my mind to it! I'm thinking of constructing it based off of a swimsuit I have that I really like, but the fabric is wearing out. We'll see!

Made By A Fabricista: I Sewed a Chic Matching Set with Fabric Mart Knit Fabric

There’s nothing I love more than sewing a project that is both stylish and comfortable—and this one checks all the boxes! For this make, I paired two Pattern Emporium designs with a gorgeous designer knit fabric from Fabric Mart, and the result is a matching tank and wide-leg pant set that’s as easy to wear as it is to sew.   The Fabric Fabric Mart always has hidden gems, and this designer knit caught my eye right away.  It’s the Urban Taupe/Gold/Black Polyester/Lycra MK Chain Print ITY Knit - NY Designer - 56W.  The weight, stretch, and drape made it perfect for both a fitted top and a flowy pant. It’s soft against the skin, has great recovery, and presses beautifully. When working with knits, having a fabric that behaves well makes all the difference. The Patterns To build my set, I chose two favorites from Pattern Emporium: • The Works Tank Top – Simple, classic, and versatile. It skims the body just right and works beautifully as a layering piece or on its ow...

Made By A Fabricista: Turning the Page

We had a lovely, warm September in central New Jersey but as of last week, fall has finally started to set in. While I’m no longer operating on a school calendar, I always look forward to the return of fall, the crisp air, the colorful leaves, and the opportunity to “turn over a new leaf.” While exploring the Fabric Mart website, browsing all their gorgeous cottons, I was incredibly inspired by the Eggshell/Black 100% Cotton Horizontal Stripe Weave Lawn . It looks exactly like a lined piece of paper. I thought it would make a fun top for work during this transitional season, one that sparks “blank page” creativity. I wanted to pair the top with a simple yet classic pair of pants, allowing each piece to be a quality addition to my work and loungewear wardrobe, working together and as separates. I picked up the beautiful Midnight Navy/White 100% Tencel Chambray , which has a fun denim-look while being quite soft and flowy. When designing the top, I wanted to play with the stripes. I chos...
