Fit-Along Contest Announcement!

Although, the Fabric Mart Fit-Along is over, I can't help but keep thinking about it! I have personally referred back to the videos as reminders of what was done to my body so that I can use them when fitting other sewing patterns. How about you? Did you follow along as you fit the pattern on yourself? Did you use them as reference on how to look for particular fit issues on your body?

If you are only learning about the Fit-Along, or didn't have time to be part of it in February, we still have fabric kits available in both ponte/double knits and challis prints. The fabric kits come with fabric, thread to match, McCall 7246 pattern and fitting order sheets to record all your alterations. These exclusive fabrics were hand-picked by Melissa and myself just for the fit-along. They are perfect for the wrap dress.

We're having two contests!
Contest #1: Purchase one of the fit-along kits between April 11 and April 30th, and be entered into a drawing for sewing prizes! Winner will be picked at random. Contest ends April 30th, 2016. One entry per person. If you order more than one kit, you will NOT have that number of entries. You will have one entry only. A winner will be selected on May 2nd.

No need to have purchased the fabric from us. Just submit your photo, that's it! Of course we would love to see fabric from the fit-along kits or any other FM fabric, but not required. Share with us what alterations you made too. Entries must be emailed by April 30th, 2016.A winner will be selected on May 2nd. 

Here are two of my wrap dresses. Melissa sewed the red one for the videos. I sewed the splatter print one afterwards.

    I was SO SURPRISED to find Melissa's fitting video here! I told all my friends about it on my Youtube channel and in my blog. All were excited. I learned to fit with that Fit for Real People book, and I LOVE P&P -- especially, Marta. I used to play her videos over and over while I sewed.
    Your dresses are very pretty. It was WONDERFUL that you allowed the fitting when you have so many issues -- like most of us! Sometimes, the model is so perfect, there is nothing to fit! Love Fabric Mart. I've bought lots of your fabric. Hugs, Joy

      Hi Joy, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! I think it's so important to share the variety of fit issues I had with everyone because it goes to show that we are not perfect. It also shows that it takes time to get great fitting garments and it's worth the effort. Thanks again! Julie

Sewing Vintage for Summer

Hello sewing friends!  I was highly motivated to try another one of the vintage Polynesian Pattern dresses I’ve collected during our hot weather. The patterns are all dramatic and fashionable and really apropos for summer styling. This one is number 204, the Pilialoha Dress.  The gown includes a wide boatneck that many of them feature, plus a very beautiful back gathering and wraparound closure. I always find that the special details on the back are such a chic surprise compared to the simple front.  I chose a lemon covered cotton lawn . I am really delighted with the quality of this cotton, it’s luxuriously soft and smooth. The scale of the lemons and blossoms are just right and not overwhelming, and the soft yellow background is beautiful. Falling for Chiffon Again

Hello Sewing Friends! It’s Tira from Tira Cooks, and I finally made the perfect sundress too bad summer is almost over! This is my last sewing project of the summer season, and I chose a beautiful red-and-white print. The result is a lightweight, flowy dress that can easily transition from summer into fall and even winter with the right layers. This fabric was actually my second choice. I originally told myself, “You need a break from chiffon!” But here I am, sewing chiffon again. The crisp hems and sewing overall were surprisingly easy. The only reminder that I was working with chiffon fabric was all the fraying! Even better, this fabric is practically wrinkle resistant. I twisted, tied, and scrunched it, and it still came out looking beautiful with zero wrinkles. Because this was a border print, planning my layout before cutting was extremely important. Athletic Wear Refresh: A Bold New Gym Set

There’s something especially motivating about refreshing your workout wardrobe with pieces that feel like you. As part of my ongoing athletic wear refresh, I’m adding another handmade set to my gym wardrobe—and this one might be the boldest yet. Lately, I’ve been taking a closer look at my handmade wardrobe and thinking more intentionally about what I actually wear in this season of my life. Athletic wear has become a big part of that. Instead of treating workout clothes as an afterthought, I want my gym wardrobe to have the same personality, color, and style as everything else I make.
