Call For Entries -- Fabricista Fashion Challenge 4!

It's that time of year again -- Fashion Challenge time!

We're looking for 6 enthusiastic sewing bloggers to participate in the Fabricista Fashion Challenge 4! This is a 5-week sewing challenge where you will be given a weekly project to complete to the best of your abilities. Each week will have a criteria for judging and will be judged by some of your favorite personalities in the sewing industry.

All the Details:
The entire sewing time for the challenge will run from September 9-October 6. A new challenge will be posted to the public every Friday morning, with the first one being Friday, September 9th. You will have until the following Tuesday night to submit your entries, so that on Wednesday morning I can post the finished projects.

There will be a total of 4 challenges and they will be posted on: Friday, Sept 9, 16, 23, 30.

Judging: Each week, you will be given a set of criteria. This will change slightly each week but usually will include fit, quality, craftsmanship and creativity. Each week there will be at least one "Celebrity Judge" on the panel. Along with myself, we will chat about how each person met the criteria and select a winner of the challenge. We will also have a Viewers Choice voting which the winner will be given a prize.

Reader Participation: You can play along too! Each week, post photos of your progress and completed challenges. Then when posting to social media, use hashtag #FabricistaFabricMart on Facebook and Instagram. We will choose one winner each week to win a prize! (Prizes will be announced each week. Only open to citizens of US and Canada, for shipping purposes.)

Fun All Around! This challenge is for the fun in it (and winning some prizes on top of it) for participants, readers, judges and myself! It is definitely hard to choose the "best" in the group, especially because we are doing everything through photographs and periodic written responses. So we're looking for participants that are good sports about a fun challenge that will expand your sewing abilities!

Do you think you have what it takes to participate in the Fabricista Fashion Challenge 4? If you answered yes, email us your submission! Here's what we need from you:

- A link to your blog's homepage - You must have an active blog to participate!
- 3 images of current sewing projects

All challenges will be based on sewing for yourself, so keep that in mind when entering. You must be able to participate during the entire challenge (September 9-October 6). Sorry, previous challenge contestants will not be considered. Open to citizens of the US and Canada (due to shipping you things for the challenges and risk of it not getting to you in time.) Entries are due by Tuesday, August 31st!

    1. Same Zoe, I'll have to try and sew along at home. A deadline adds such a great incentive to start AND finish a project

Made by a Fabricista: Maxi Looks for Summer

Happy Saturday All!!   This summer break seems to be flying by so quickly and I only have one month before I return to virtual teaching.  After parent surveys, union, and school board meetings our school district is returning to virtual teaching and learning next month.  The cases in Miami Dade County have surged over the last few weeks and with over 70K cases in the county where I teach, and a growing 300K + cases in Florida, I don’t even know when things will return back to normal due to COVID-19.
I have been heartbroken but the only thing I can appeal to others is to stay safe and wear your mask. I am blessed so far to have no immediate family member affected by this pandemic. It has been a tough year for most of us but I am pretty sure that this too shall pass.
Now let’s get into my summer sewing plans!!  Last month I selected 2 prints: a zebra chevron and an animal print and knew I wanted to make maxi looks for summer. Unfortunately, both challis prints are sold out but there are…

Made by a Fabricista: Autumn Transitional Dress and Cardis

Hello Fabric Mart friends!

So nice to say hey again!  Just want to take this opportunity to wish my awesome, sweet and amazing firstborn a Happy 5th Birthday this week.  It's hard to believe he's already FIVE!

Like many folks I've been spending a lot of time at home this Summer, which has translated into lots of sewing.  I've often had a thoughts about sewing for the upcoming season to get maximum wear out of garments, but often seem to be playing catch up for the current season.  But not this time:  here are my first transitional pieces for Autumn, entirely inspired by the wonderful sweater knits I kept spying at Fabric Mart.

First up is the cardigan:  Helen's Closet Blackwood Cardigan

This is the third Blackwood I've made, but the first of the shorter iteration (view B).  It makes me want to sew up a 3/4 sleeve cropped version!

The fabric is a delightfully mottled abstract blot poly/lycra sweater knit.  Unfortunately, it's sold out at the site now but you…
