Made by a Fabricista: Church Flow DIY Dress

Hello 2017!!! We are going to start the year off with The "Church"  DIY Dress. That's what Mori calls this dress. I thought well since we are going with the whole Church Dress let's add some pearls! So I'm thinking this dress will not get a lot of air-time if you catch my drift. Now  you may remember the fabric that I used for the skirt because it was the same fabric I used for that beautiful jumpsuit below that Mori rocked this summer. Everybody loved that print and it was sold-out!

I had a little yardage left in my stash for a rainy day. I fell in love when I saw this Pre-cut Vibrant Magenta Nylon/Lycra Suiting by Halston and I snatched up 4 yards in the hopes of making a suit. This fabric has a Scuba-like feel to it and I decided I didn't want pants out of this fabric.                                                                                                                                                                       
I was going to make just a blazer but then I played around with mixing this solid with a  print and this is what happened! I decided on McCall's 7083. I don't have any tips for this pattern, it was pretty straight forward, easy, peazy! This pattern has several options that you can mix and match. I hacked the sleeves just a little, I made them a little fuller than the pattern and my cuffs are thicker than the pattern's cuffs. I'm thinking this could be a go-to pattern, that I can whip up real quick.                                                                                                                                                                                                         So the pre-cut fabric is history but there is a pink shade of by-the-yard fabric HERE. Be aware of your heat setting on your iron with this type of fabric....I did scorch a piece and had to start over. You will also want to use your walking foot to sew this fabric, it will make your life easier. Rest assured that this type of fabric is NOT your only option.       If they can deal with that attitude when we start taking the pictures she might make a little money! That drizzle outside almost made this shoot a wrap, cause she was not trying to hear nothing but once she started twirling that umbrella she was all into it.

    Superb choices of fabric and pattern... and superb styling of the look! Every tiny detail - necklace, boots, umbrella, belt - are perfect. And your daughter is the most perfect of all!

    The dress is beautiful--great ideas and good sewing skills. I love looking at the pictures. You made the dress pattern a lot more interesting than the pattern images.

Made By A Fabricista: A Fresh Take on a Classic Shirt Dress

Summer has arrived! That means longer days, soaring temps, and the perfect excuse for me to add another linen garment to my wardrobe.  Lightweight linen and summer weather just go together, don’t you agree? That’s why I choose this striped linen for my next Fabricista make. Hello Sewing Friends! It’s Sharon from Sharon Sews ready to share my summer dress with you.  The tiny blue and white stripes combined with navy buttons give it a bit of coastal charm, while the details make it anything but a traditional shirt dress.  The fabric is a Ralph Lauren 100% shirt weight linen. The stripes are so small that from a distance the fabric almost looks like a solid color. When you find the perfect summer dress pattern that also happens to be 100% bump-friendly, you don't just celebrate—you immediately plan to make it in every single color of the rainbow. At least, that’s the executive decision I made after sewing my first Tilly and the Buttons Mabel Dress for the Fabricista Blog. It all started with a classic late-night scroll on the Fabric Mart website, where I fell hard for a gorgeous midnight blue cotton lawn block print. I knew I wanted an easy-to-wear, breezy summer dress that could accommodate a growing bump, but I didn't want to buy a pattern I’d only wear for a few months. Made By A Fabricista: Art In Motion

Hello Sewing Friends! It’s Tira from TIRACOOKS and I am so excited to share this project with you. When I first spotted this fabric, I was drawn in by how stunning it looked it reminded me of a living art piece. Then, when I looked closer, I noticed painted hanging plants in the print, which made it even more special. This fabric is one of my all-time favorites: chiffon. It cuts so smoothly, and the best part? Any wrinkles come out effortlessly with a steamer. Before cutting into anything, fabric prep is essential! Chiffon must be prewashed by hand in cold water with a gentle detergent or baby shampoo. Always serge or zigzag stitch the raw edges to prevent fraying. Submerge and gently swirl the fabric to wash never wring or twist it then air dry flat. I used a 70/10 needle in my Juki DDL, which is perfect for lightweight fabrics, alongside my Juki overlock machine.
