Announcing the Skirt Challenge!

Sewing just got a little cooler! I love wearing skirts in the summer time. To get ready for that, Fabric Mart will be hosting a Skirt Challenge throughout the month of May!

 Here's how it works:
Post a photo of a skirt you made on Instagram OR Facebook using #sewcoolskirts and tag Fabric Mart in your post. Then each week in May, we will pick a winner at random to win a $50 gift certificate to Fabric Mart! There's also a few other prizes that will pop up, so watch for more details! 

 The skirt must be handmade but doesn't have to be made during the month. The photos tagged must be posted in the month of May. Sorry, no backdating or tagging an old post. We encourage newly made skirts because it's just more fun that way! (But not required.) 

 Winners of the $50 gift certificates will be announced on May 8, 15, 22 & 29. There will also be other prizes available and we will announce what they will be at a later time. 
On top of that, we will be sharing some of our favorite skirt patterns and designs. Do you have a favorite skirt pattern that you would like to see on the list? Comment below and we may include it our favorites list!

    My favorite Maxi skirt is Simplicity 1616 view A for knits. Great for beachy breezy days with a tank top or can be dressed up for work with a cute top and cardigan.

    Do you have to be from the US? How about if we can use a US address for shipping purposes?

      Hi Connie,
      Because we only ship to US, Canada and Australia, you wouldn't be able to win the prizes. Customers in Canada and Australia are responsible for shipping costs whereas US customers have a flat rate $8.75 shipping. If you're somewhere other than places we ship, I hope you will follow along for fun! Or if you have a freight forwarder that you work with in the US, that would be possible too!

      You can post as many skirts as you want for the entire month. A winner will be picked weekly.

Made By A Fabricista: Surgery, a pattern hack, and a hemming tip.

I’m here on the blog today sharing a pattern hack I recently did to boost my wardrobe with a few pieces to wear during my recovery from surgery…and I’m also sharing a tip for those pesky rounded hems. So let’s jump in! I recently had surgery on my neck due to issues with my parathyroid glands. All went to plan and I’m doing well, but I have to admit, the scar was a bit larger and more prominent than I expected. I definitely want to cover it up a bit during the healing process, and I realized that I own very few tops that cover that area of my neck. I don’t really love wearing high neck tops, so I came up with the idea to sew a top that I could convert back to my preferred style once I recover.  The pattern I used to do this is the Laundry Day Tee from Love Notions.
