Made By A Fabricista: Mommy and me skirts for Christmas!

HI Fashionistas! 

Hope you all are having a wonderful December. Mine is going by way too fast!  I've been sewing up a storm lately. Last weekend, I wrapped up my baby shower dress and this past weekend, I finished these mommy and me skirts from a double-knit fabric:

For my daughter, I made a full circle skirt, and for myself, I made a maternity pencil skirt. I am seven months now!


Hers has a straight waistband and a zip on the back. Both hers and mine are self-drafted. 


I used a black and white double knit that can be seen HERE

She has her very own custom clothier, and wardrobe department...


I styled this skirt two ways, 1st with a halter top with a bow, and next with this ruffle tee with 3/4 sleeves. Personally, I felt more "me" in the long sleeves,  since I feel its a more balanced look, and the top is longer. I do love the halter with the bow. It's very chic!


Initially, I had planned on making mommy and me pajamas for Christmas morning.  It is my annual tradition, but the fabric did not have as much of a stretch as needed, so I switched to skirts!


And here is my latest obsession. Owl earrings! I shared with you the last owl earrings I gifted myself HERE. Well here is another :)


That's all the fun I have to share with you! We put up our Christmas decorations yesterday morning and had some friends for a Christmas Party! It was so much fun. By the time you read this post, I will officially be in hibernation mode for the rest of the year!

    beautiful Vatsla! I love both of your tops, with the ruffles and the bow. Both of you look so cute together! I would have loved to have seen the jammies. Would they have been "onesies"? Love the owl earrings too!

      HI! Thank you so much. I would probably have made wide leg Pj's with a yoga band on top! Will definitely do so next year! Hope you are well!

I know it can’t just be me. My sewjo has gone away and I’ve been having such a hard time trying to get it back. Made By A Fabricista: Summery Stripes Set

Warm weather and linen go hand in hand! Our summer has been slow to show up with the heat, but bright, sunny afternoons have me all ready for light, swingy garments to stay cool. Wearing matching sets has been one way to make getting dressed easier when I hit decision fatigue since reaching for two items that already go together removes the need to plan or do any rearranging.  This is a lovely lighter-end-of-mid-weight linen in the most beautiful and subtle seaglass hues of grays and greens. This color combo strikes me as so calm and sophisticated, and a little stripe-play is perfect for details.  My tank pattern is the brand-spankin’ new Matchy Matchy Sewing Club Sunny Side Tank, just released this week. It’s a perfect little cropped A-line shape for wearing with high waisted pants or showing some midriff.  I made no changes to the extra small. When you find the perfect summer dress pattern that also happens to be 100% bump-friendly, you don't just celebrate—you immediately plan to make it in every single color of the rainbow. At least, that’s the executive decision I made after sewing my first Tilly and the Buttons Mabel Dress for the Fabricista Blog. We are getting close to the start of summer and I am coming to you with this checkered look to start the season.  I had an inspiration saved of a full checkered set which I absolutely loved and said if I ever find the perfect fabric I would make it.  I was so happy to see exactly what I was looking for one day when I was checking out Fabric Mart’s site.  Not only did I find the exact big check but I also saw the traditional gingham shirting in a very close colorway.  I thought it would be fun to work the two scales together to create a look.  I’ll admit sometimes I overthink things and end up going down a deep rabbit hole trying to find a new inspiration that would work.  I wanted to make something that still would reflect my personal style and could continuously rework in my wardrobe without it looking too “countrytime” or “clownish”.
