Hello Fellow Sewists! I’m excited to share my latest Fabricista make with you all, as I have started my transition in to sewing for Fall! Now don’t get me wrong-I am by no means wishing summer away! Summer is my favorite time of year here in Minnesota. But Fall is my second favorite. And I have done a ton of summer sewing. So I wanted to get a jump start on building a cozy, yet classy Fall wardrobe that will suit me perfectly as I’m at home more but still need to be put together for zoom meetings and running errands.
I chose two gorgeous sweater knit fabrics to work with for these outfits. I knew I wanted a great basic black knit fabric. And then I fell in love with the floral knit fabric as soon as I saw it! So I am excited that I got to work with both.
My original intention was to make a mix and match wardrobe but as I thought about it, I hardly ever actually mix and match things! So instead, I decided to use one of my favorite wrap dress patterns, Butterick 5454. I have made this pattern several times and wanted to add a few more in to my handmade wardrobe. You know how some people have uniforms? Well, this wrap dress would be my uniform if I had to wear one-I just love it!
For this black set, I made view B exactly as shown on the pattern. It’s a little shorter than I like my wrap dresses, so I paired it with cropped pants I made using New Look 6517.
The floral fabric made the most beautiful wrap dress. I cut View B again, but this time, I drafted a ruffle panel for the hem to bring it to the length I prefer my dresses. I just love the ruffle modification-I’m still obsessed with ruffles and will make exactly this dress a couple more times. It’s so comfortable and, I think, stylish-and I feel great wearing it!!
I am so happy with these first two additions to my Fall 2021 handmade wardrobe. I’ll be so comfortable while wearing these, but still put together for zoom meetings or if I need to run errands. My Luxe Knits wardrobe is off to a great start. I’ll be shipping the sweater knit section again soon so that I can create more comfy and classy luxe knit sets.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! I'd love to make your version of the floral dress. Does the skirt of the dress wrap in front, or did you eliminate the wrap feature? It looks fabulous and comfy!
ReplyDeleteThe ruffle really makes the dress! They should have included it in the pattern. It's great that you thought of it and had the skills to pull it off.
ReplyDeleteVery nice work. I like full coverage of my décolletage and I always shy away from wrap dresses, but your pieces give me the inspiration to give it a try.
