Made by a Fabricista: Co-Ord Set

Hi everyone, this is Byrd with my latest Fabricista make! When I saw Fabric Mart’s Egyptian Blue Polyester/Lycra Liverpool Double Knit, I knew it had to be mine. The color is pure royalty—rich, deep, and striking in a way that instantly catches the eye. Beyond the shade, the fabric itself is a dream: it’s a four-way stretch, light to medium weight, and wrinkle resistant, making it perfect for dresses, skirts, tops, and pants. What really sets it apart is the texture—the right side has a subtle patterned surface while the back is soft and smooth against the skin. Add in the gorgeous drape and flow, and you’ve got a fabric that’s as versatile as it is luxurious.

For the pattern, I went with the Winnie Pants by Made for Mermaids. Their size chart is a little different, and I sewed a size Yellow. For reference, my waist is 42" and my hips are 48", and there’s still plenty of ease built into the pattern. This design comes with several options, but I chose the high-waisted version with wide legs. The pin tuck detail really elevates these pants, giving them a polished, tailored feel while still keeping them comfortable enough for everyday wear.

Let’s talk about the details that make these pants so wearable. The waistband is one of my favorite features—I used a 2-inch soft waistband elastic, and it feels amazing on my waist. There are options to add more detail to the waistband, but I decided to keep it clean and simple, which really lets the fabric shine. And the pockets? Absolute perfection. They’re roomy, easy to slip your hands into, and practical without adding bulk.

To complete the look, I also self-drafted an off-the-shoulder top in the same fabric, and I’m obsessed with how it pairs with the pants. It was super simple to make—just the front and back cut on the fold—yet it really shows off the drape of this fabric and balances perfectly with the wide-leg silhouette.

All in all, this fabric and pattern pairing was a win. The Egyptian blue Liverpool knit is stunning to sew with, a total standout to wear, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re looking for a fabric with color, texture, and movement that feels every bit as good as it looks, this is it.

Made By A Fabricista: I Sewed a Chic Matching Set with Fabric Mart Knit Fabric

There’s nothing I love more than sewing a project that is both stylish and comfortable—and this one checks all the boxes! For this make, I paired two Pattern Emporium designs with a gorgeous designer knit fabric from Fabric Mart, and the result is a matching tank and wide-leg pant set that’s as easy to wear as it is to sew.   The Fabric Fabric Mart always has hidden gems, and this designer knit caught my eye right away.  It’s the Urban Taupe/Gold/Black Polyester/Lycra MK Chain Print ITY Knit - NY Designer - 56W.  The weight, stretch, and drape made it perfect for both a fitted top and a flowy pant. It’s soft against the skin, has great recovery, and presses beautifully. When working with knits, having a fabric that behaves well makes all the difference. The Patterns To build my set, I chose two favorites from Pattern Emporium: • The Works Tank Top – Simple, classic, and versatile. It skims the body just right and works beautifully as a layering piece or on its ow...

Made By A Fabricista: A Berry Bold Suit – Scallops and Wide Legs for Fall

Hello Sewing Friends! It’s Sharon from Sharon Sews back with a fabulous Fabricista make for fall.  I fell in love with the color of this stretch suiting and couldn’t wait to sew myself something to wear as the weather starts to cool off.   Before I share about my jacket and pants, can we have a moment to appreciate this “Jazzberry Jam” color? It brings to mind strolling through my local farmer’s market, filling my tote (handmade of course!) with fresh produce, and then baking seasonal goodies, something I love to do when the weather turns crisp.  Of course, I’m not wearing my suit for that outing!  The fabric is a designer polyester/rayon/lycra mid-weight stretch suiting that has a lovely drape and a wonderfully soft feel.  I ordered it with a jacket and pants in mind, but honestly, it would have also been stunning sewn into a vest, skirt, dress, or even a lightweight coat or cape.  It’s such a versatile fabric.  I ordered matching thread from Fa...
