Warm weather and linen go hand in hand! Our summer has been slow to show up with the heat, but bright, sunny afternoons have me all ready for light, swingy garments to stay cool. Wearing matching sets has been one way to make getting dressed easier when I hit decision fatigue since reaching for two items that already go together removes the need to plan or do any rearranging.
This is a lovely lighter-end-of-mid-weight linen in the most beautiful and subtle seaglass hues of grays and greens. This color combo strikes me as so calm and sophisticated, and a little stripe-play is perfect for details.
My tank pattern is the brand-spankin’ new Matchy Matchy Sewing Club Sunny Side Tank, just released this week. It’s a perfect little cropped A-line shape for wearing with high waisted pants or showing some midriff.
I made no changes to the extra small. The wide neckline is so elegant and this shape still gives full bra coverage to boot.
These really cute pants are the Matchy Matchy Sewing Club All Day Culottes. This is a free pattern. These are a really straightforward sew and a good one for beginners since they are extremely forgiving in size and shape, and I did size down one. The pattern comes with the optional hem pintucks feature, and I was instantly drawn to trying out that element.
I think that is such a cool style detail, and I was really excited to include the pintucks in my pair.
There are also nice big pockets anchored into the waistband, and I turned my stripes horizontal for the pocket facings and used my favorite waistband method of topstitched rows.
The swing tee was my surprise bonus piece this round. I opted for the Elizabeth Suzann Linn Tee.
I had just sewn my first Linn before this project and was very eager to have another in my closet! The shape is so chic and the wide high-low hemline is fabulous. I had to do some careful cutting with the fabric I had left, and I love the accent on the back with the stripe direction. I was able to match up the stripes on the horizontal side seams, too!
Rather than turning under and topstitching the hem, I finished it with bias tape. This preserves the length and also gives it a little weight to hang just right. Such a pretty inner detail!
I hope this finds you inspired to try a matching set and experiment with linen for some beautiful and comfortable summer pieces!
