Hello Fabricistas! It's Meg from Cookin' and Craftin' ... I'm here to announce that I have both spring fever and jumpsuit fever. The weather in Vermont isn't quite consistently warm enough for short sleeves and bare ankles, but I don't think that's going to stop me from wearing this jumpsuit immediately, and often!

Twinning! My husband was appalled when he realized that I had made the two of us garments from the same fabric, and not for the first time.

First, the coat: this is the  Jill Coatigan from Seamwork , which Seamwork describes as "an easy-to-sew, over-sized coatigan that can be made in chunky sweater knits and thick wool coatings."

Hey there, Fabricistas! It's Meg from Cookin' and Craftin' . When you decide on a sewing project, do you choose the fabric first, or the pattern? My process varies, but in this case, the gorgeous fabric came first, then I pondered patterns that would highlight the fabric best.

Seasonally inappropriate sewing alert! I've got a long sleeved  double knit  t-shirt dress for you on this hot, hot midsummer day... I was absolutely melting when taking these photos (hence the sunglasses and wet hair!) but I am in love with my new dress!

Hello Fabricistas! It's Meg from Cookin' and Craftin' . I've got some summer-y sews for you today... it's not quite summer yet where I live in Vermont, but I'm definitely dreaming of summer. My summer plans involve basically wearing linen 24/7... a lady who linens, if you will. I have a feeling some of my fellow Fabricistas ( Elizabeth and Tiffany ) may feel the same way, as they've sewn up some lovely linen projects lately, too! The designer linen from Fabric Mart is just really lovely... such fabulous quality. Nice drape and beautiful texture (hard to photograph in white!). I got my hands on some significant yardage of the white linen this month and was super excited to sew with it! I had originally planned to make shirts for me and Tim, but it turns out that Tim is not a lover of linen as I am. I shrugged my shoulders and thought to myself, "More for me!" Hello Fabricistas! It's Meg from Cookin' and Craftin' , back with a couple garments made from some of my favorite TNT patterns and gorgeous Fabric Mart fabrics. As I did a few months back , I've made something for myself, but also something for my husband! I chose patterns that I consider TNTs: the Cashmerette Concord t-shirt for me and McCall's 6044 for Tim. First, for the dude, a slightly modified McCall's 6044 buttondown shirt. I've made this pattern for him so many times that I no longer look at the instructions. It works in a wide variety of fabrics and we've got the fit just how he likes it. The fabric I used for his shirt is this cotton flannel twill shirting . I love the brick red color, which is created by terra cotta threads in direction and charcoal grey threads in the other.  The flannel is quite lightweight, but super soft and has a cool texture! A little bit shifty and easily unraveled, but it makes for a nice, comfy shi...

Happy New Year, Fabricistas! For this new year post, I decided to focus on some solid basics for me and my husband in easy to wear, easy to sew ponte knits . For him, a shawl-collar Thread Theory Finlayson Sweater : For me, a shawl-collar  Hot Patterns Metropolitan Chimera cardigan/jacket : When I was choosing fabric, Fabric Mart had some fabulous ponte in stock. For my husband, I opted for a fossil grey rayon/nylon/lyrca ponte, and a solid midnight black viscose/nylon/lycra ponte for myself. Both colors are out of stock, but they have some other fun shades in this fabulous substrate ! I found Tim was between sizes on the Thread Theory size chart, so for his Finlayson sweater , I cut the smaller size (a Large), but used a small seam allowance than called for. It worked out well! I love this pattern. Such nice details, like a decorative back neck facing. Tim looks great in the Finlayson ! He's worn it a bunch since I made it. It's perfect for layering ov...

Hello Fabric Mart Fabricistas! I'm Meg and I'm new here! I'm really delighted to be blogging here for Fabric Mart on occasion. You can also find me at my blog, Cookin' and Craftin' , in between my posts here! For my first project with Fabric Mart, I chose this killer Aegean Blue rayon/tencel chambray ... it's a lovely color with a cool, slightly nubby texture. The chambray has a great hand: nice and drapey but also perfectly crisp when pressed... ideal for shirtmaking! It also looked fabulous as a jumpsuit, as Tiffany demonstrated here recently ! Speaking of shirts, I made the Liesl + Co Recital Shirt , a princess seamed shirt with a pleated, tuxedo-style front. I love the versions of the Liesl + Co Classic shirt I made earlier this year , and Liesl said the Recital Shirt was based on the same block, with many of the same details, so it was a no-brainer to try out this pattern!
