Made By A Fabricista: YouTube Edition | Janine Sews – A Summer Twinset

I’m one of those people who is always either too hot or too cold … if I’m sitting outside, I want sleeveless but the minute I walk into a restaurant, I’m freezing! For my July Fabricista project I sewed a twinset that will take me from the hottest of days to the coldest of air conditioning.  Fabric For this project I picked a bright summery orange poly/spandex blend with a jacquard print of clusters of dots. The dots aren’t very apparent when looking at the yardage but once it was made up into the twinset the waves of dots add a lot of dimension! Pattern Pamela Leggett’s patterns always fit me so I selected Pamela’s Patterns New Versatile Twin Set and made the tank top and cardigan. As with all of Pamela’s patterns I didn’t need to make many alterations. I selected the correct size by using my high bust measurement, moved the darts to fit my shape, and I also added ¼” to the seam allowances on the sides of the tank and top to give myself a bit of ice cream space! Made by a Fabricista: Sirocco Jumpsuit

Good day everyone, here we are already deep in July unbelievable! And here I am again with yet another Fabricista make to share with you. Before we get into any details let’s take a minute and talk about this fabric, it’s a Deep Scarlet Liverpool Knit , I cannot begin to explain the color it was even more beautiful than expected when I received my parcel and I was thrilled. Beautiful two way stretch, believe it or not it has an amazing drape and feels so good against the skin. I have seen the texture of the fabric on makes, read the description and always wanted to work with it. Now that I have, I can see what the big whoop around it was all about! For this make I chose the Sirocco Jumpsuit from Deer and Doe Patterns , I had my eye on it for a while and this Liverpool was a perfect match. While I was very excited about this make and how nice it came I am not as excited about the fit. I made a toile with a knit fabric nonetheless when I cut my real fabric the bodice is too short for my...

Made by a Fabricista: Updating My Summer Wardrobe

Hello all!  I am back and excited to share my makes for the summer.   While looking for something to wear, given the heat and humidity, it became obvious quickly that there are two gaps in my summer wardrobe:  a sundress and a maxi dress with ruffles.  After all these years, I had neither one! From Instagram’s MeMadeMay discussions, true sundresses are lightweight sleeveless dresses that expose the shoulders, arms, possibly the back, and typically have straps. Before I retired, I was too busy to shop so any sleeveless dress was good enough.   Also, from social media, lightweight maxi dresses with tiered ruffles are on trend.  Looking back, I avoided these two styles of dresses because they reminded me of what little girls would wear. Now in my later years, I seek comfort above all else.  These dresses seemed they would keep me cool for the summer.   For the sundress, I liked the features of Vogue V1625 by designer Tracy Reese. It lo...

Made By A Fabricista: All Aboard the Overall Train

To say I love overalls is an understatement. Throughout 2020 I lived in one pair of ready to wear overalls.  It was my go to outfit.  I knew though it was time to make my own pair.  Enter in the Jenny Overalls from Closet Core Patterns. I used this Autumn Orange/White Cotton Stripe Bottom Weight from Fabric Mart and it was a match made in heaven.  Now these overalls are a bit different from my usual pair.  First the silhouette is more of a vintage style.  Think Rosie the Riveter. Wide legs, high waist, and a bib that fits the bust area well!  The overalls also feature zippers, not a button fly for getting them on and off.  You have the option to use one zipper or two depending on your hip size. So if you need more wiggle room to get them on you can opt for two zippers.  I am a glutton for punishment so even thought I only really needed one zipper to get in and out of them I installed two.  I liked the waist band option for the two zipp...

Made by a Fabricista: Two Can Play Hearts

Hi family, Eunice here, and I am on to my third make as a Fabric Mart Fabricista! This time I chose a 100% Polyester Hearts & Circles Print Blouse Weight Woven. This fabric was almost 60 inches wide & I got 5 yards. I also selected a black lining fabric. Both fabrics were beautiful and I immediately decided to make two outfits. The first dress is a fitted dress I saw on Instagram. I decided to self draft it myself. Because of the soft buttery texture of the fabric I decided that French seams would go beautifully inside. The lining fabric was beautiful enough to use for the ruffle at the bottom of the dress. The rectangular shape sleeve was something I had seen and wanted to emulate. I couldn't have been happier with how it came out. The dress turned out so beautiful!   For my second make I used a Vintage Simplicity 7383. This was a dress I had made before, it's a maxi dress with a cape, the pattern was straight forward, I didn't do any adjustment, I also used so...

Made By A Fabricista: The Perfect Suit

One piece of clothing I have always had an issue buying is a bathing suit. The top never fits the bottom, the torso is always too short and the straps never hit in just the right spot. So when I find the perfect fitting bathing suit, it’s as if I hit the lottery. When I went on vacation last month, I found a great fitting suit from Amazon. The suit fit great but the fabric was a different story. All I kept thinking was “this suit would be in my top 2 if the fabric was better”. So then enters this perfect nylon/lycra hibiscus print I snagged from Fabric Mart online. It provides the perfect amount of stretch and comfort making it the best option for swimwear. I duplicated the pattern and fit and made it just a bit better with the fabric. Chandler’s suit was drafted. NIKKI   |  @ beautejadore Unfortunately Fabric Mart Fabrics sell out quickly! Made by a Fabricista: Bias’d for Plaid

Hello everyone!  It’s Sharon back with my second Fabricista post!  This time I chose to work with a lovely soft pastel plaid shirting fabric.  The big shirt trend has been popular for a season or two and, according to recent fashion articles I’ve read, it will remain popular throughout the summer. This lightweight fabric, a cotton/polyester blend, had the structure to work beautifully as an oversized shirt. I don’t typically wear classic button front shirts, so of course I choose to sew one with a little “extra”!  Vogue 1744 looks like a tailored button front shirt from the front, but the pleated back provides interest and movement. By the way, this pattern was rebranded in 2020, and had been previously released as Vogue 9360. I sewed View D, the mandarin collar option, with short sleeves and hi-low hem.   This particular plaid is an uneven plaid. If you’re unsure whether your plaid is even or uneven, here’s how to test (according to my Vogue Sewing Book c....
