Being new to the social media scene can be confusing and overwhelming. But don’t let it discourage you! Fabric Mart offers various social media options to keep you informed and inspired. If you need a little kick start or a refresher course in how to do this, this is the post for you! We’re going to show you how to become a follower of our blog through Facebook and Pinterest using the social media accounts you already have!


 How to follow from the Blog itself:
Good news! If you are reading this post you are inches away from following us!
On the left side bar there is a "Followers" gadget.
By clicking "Join this site" you will be taken to a page that gives you several options for which account you can use to sign in and follow us.
The most popular being Google, Twitter, or Yahoo.
By following us here, you will be able to see our posts from your page.
We use Google Reader to stay up to date on our favorite blogs. It allows you to read all of the blogs you subscribe to from one main site.
You could use this reader by signing in with your Google account.


Follow the blog using your Facebook:  
Facebook is very common and a great way to keep up with not only friends, but your favorite businesses and blogs.
Yet, even for an accomplished Facebook user, the new apps and timeline layout can make it difficult.
Start by visiting our Facebook page.
You can follow our blog directly from Facebook. Just under the header there are apps. Click on the Fabric Mart blog app. This will take you to that Networked Blogs app which will allow you to read a preview of our post right from Facebook. Clicking on the title or picture will take you to our blog where you can read the post. By following us from this page you will not only be able to see our blog posts from Facebook, but also be informed when a new post is up from your newsfeed.
Sounds great right?! Just click "Follow" on the top right of the Networked Blog page.


Use your Pinterest to see our new posts and repin them:
Pinterest has been all the rage lately, but many are still missing out on the scene.
Pinterest is like an online file folder for all of your inspiration.
You can create an account by signing in with your Facebook or another account.
By following our Pinterest you can check out our categories and even find our blog posts in the appropriate Pin Board categories. When we pin a new blog post you will be able to see it in your newest pins section. You can repin our blog posts to your own boards or if you are reading our blog
and you like something you see, you can pin it to your Pin board right from our site using the pin app from Pinterest. This is a great way to revisit it later or share your find with your followers on Pinterest.

You may have noticed that Fabric Mart has a *HUGE* selection of silk taffeta right now.  A lot of it is either large plaid or large stripes.   I was curious about it, and not really sure what I could make with it, but I just knew it would be gorgeous fabric and had to play around with it.  Turns out, it's actually great for quite a range of projects!  The dress above is my third project. Let me show you the first two. My first was to make some queen size pillow shams.  They are the plaid ones in the back of the photo.  I also made the two printed ones in the center from another Fabric Mart home dec fabric special!  I wanted to make the covers removable with a zipper, and include a braided trim.  As luck would have it, I found a whole card of braided trim at an estate sale that worked with my taffeta for just $2! A Yard And Change

Do you have a fabric that you love and has been hanging around but is too small to use? Maybe you found a wonderful fabric with a super cute print but there's only a yard left.  I've got a few projects I worked on all with roughly a yard of fabric. And I have a few tips for making that yard and change go further! Cutting Layout: You can get a lot more mileage out of a yard of fabric if you can get creative with how you lay out your fabric. Cutting things single layer will give you the most control. My favorite thing to do is unfold the fabric and fold the selvages in to meet in the middle. That gives me two folded edges to work with. I had to overlap these to get enough width for the tank top. Just make sure that your pattern pieces don't also overlap!  This one was especially fun for me because I really loved the print on this swimwear knit but am not yet up to sewing swimwear. Hi everyone, this is Byrd with my latest Fabricista make! If you’re looking for the perfect handmade piece for spring and summer travel, these just might be it. This time around I’m sewing up the Burnside Bibs by Sew House Seven using Fabric Mart’s gorgeous Aquamarine/Umber Brown 100% Cotton Floral Artisan Batiks Jungle Dreams by Robert Kaufman. From the moment I saw this fabric, I was completely drawn in by the colors. The combination of aquamarine, brown, and cream feels both earthy and vibrant, making it perfect for warm weather sewing. I immediately knew it would make an incredible spring or summer garment. I’m a longtime fan of Robert Kaufman fabrics and always appreciate the quality and artistry behind the prints. As always, and especially because this is 100% cotton, I gave the fabric a thorough wash and dry before cutting into it.
