Fashion Challenge 5

 It's that time of year again -- Fashion Challenge time! 

The entire sewing time for the challenge will run from September 9-October 6. A new challenge will be posted to the public every Friday morning, with the first one being Friday, September 9th. You will have until the following Tuesday night to submit your entries, so that on Wednesday morning I can post the finished projects.     
     
There will be a total of 4 challenges and they will be posted on: Friday, Sept 9, 16, 23, 30.

Judging: Each week, you will be given a set of criteria. This will change slightly each week but usually will include fit, quality, craftsmanship and creativity. Each week there will be at least one "Celebrity Judge" on the panel. Along with myself, we will chat about how each person met the criteria and select a winner of the challenge. We will also have a Viewers Choice voting which the winner will be given a prize. 

Reader Participation: You can play along too! Each week, post photos of your progress and completed challenges. Then when posting to social media, use hashtag #FabricistaFabricMart on Facebook and Instagram. We will choose one winner each week to win a prize! (Prizes will be announced each week. Only open to citizens of US and Canada, for shipping purposes.) 

Fun All Around! This challenge is for the fun in it (and winning some prizes on top of it) for participants, readers, judges and myself! It is definitely hard to choose the "best" in the group, especially because we are doing everything through photographs and periodic written responses. So we're looking for participants that are good sports about a fun challenge that will expand your sewing abilities!

Prizes!
Grand Prize Winner will receive: $25 a month for one year to spend on fabric at FabricMartFabrics.com, plus be a Fabric Mart Fabricista for 6 months writing guest posts for the blog. You will also receive a Julie's Picks Membership. (A $350 value with media exposure.)

Second place will receive: $100 gift certificate to spend at Fabric Mart, plus a Julie's Picks Membership. (A $150 value.)

Third place will receive: $50 gift certificate to spend at Fabric Mart, plus a Julie's Picks Membership. (A $100 value.)

    ^^With SewCrafty! I cannot wait to watch this challenge unfold. I have to tell you all--give it a shot! I was on the fence about joining in last year and I am so glad I did--it helped me reach some big goals within my own sewing each week, and I learned so much about how much more I could accomplish as a seamstress.     I have loved following along with this challenge in the past years and it was soooo exciting to participate last year. Can't wait to see what the challenges will be and what each contestant will make!

Hope you're having a Golden day, get it? I went to my "tnt"  blazer pattern for this project because I knew the metallic bias around the edges would look fab and I was on a mission to make another pair of mimi g's jeans and trim the seams in metallic bias as well. Made By A Fabricista: Blouse with a Unique Neckline? McCall’s 8658 Is It!

 Hi everyone, this is Byrd with my latest Fabricista make! If you’re looking for a polished, structured blouse that works just as well dressed up as it does dressed down, this one is definitely worth a look. I’m sewing up McCall’s 8658, View B, part of the Spring 2026 pattern collection, and I paired it with Fabric Mart’s charcoal cotton poplin by Robert Kaufman. I was initially drawn to this pattern because of its unique neckline and tailored feel, and I knew right away that a crisp poplin would give me the structure I wanted. This blouse is semi-fitted and full of thoughtful design details that really elevate it. The neckline is a standout, featuring a collar and collar band paired with a front button closure. I especially love the shape of the front hem and the way it opens slightly - it adds movement without being overdone. Made By A Fabricista: In Love with Linen

Linen is the best fabric to sew and wear. I selected a beautiful 100% linen from Fabric Mart that is a steel blue and cream floral linen to sew up a By Hand London Hannah Wrap Dress pattern. The flowers look like Dahlias. I originally sewed a Toile from a black and white cotton bedsheet, wore the dress a lot but never made it again. I gave the Toile away to a friend who always commented on how much she loved the dress. When I saw this fabric, I knew I wanted to make the Hannah again. Linen is so easy to sew the entire experience reminded me why linen remains one of my favorite fabrics to sew. I look for a light to medium weight  European linen for a dress. I like a rayon or cotton blend with linen because it seems to have more drape and be more soft. Linen gets softer with washing and wearing it. This particular linen feels crisp and after ironing and washing, softens up. I like how Fabric Mart describes the fabrics as top, dress, blouse, shirt weight under “Use” and will describe...
