Fashion Challenge 5

See the six contestants HERE.

It's that time of year again -- Fashion Challenge time!

The entire sewing time for the challenge will run from September 9-October 6. A new challenge will be posted to the public every Friday morning, with the first one being Friday, September 9th. You will have until the following Tuesday night to submit your entries, so that on Wednesday morning I can post the finished projects.

There will be a total of 4 challenges and they will be posted on: Friday, Sept 9, 16, 23, 30.

Judging: Each week, you will be given a set of criteria. This will change slightly each week but usually will include fit, quality, craftsmanship and creativity. Each week there will be at least one "Celebrity Judge" on the panel. Along with myself, we will chat about how each person met the criteria and select a winner of the challenge. We will also have a Viewers Choice voting which the winner will be given a prize.

Reader Participation: You can play along too! Each week, post photos of your progress and completed challenges. Then when posting to social media, use hashtag #FabricistaFabricMart on Facebook and Instagram. We will choose one winner each week to win a prize! (Prizes will be announced each week. Only open to citizens of US and Canada, for shipping purposes.)

Fun All Around! This challenge is for the fun in it (and winning some prizes on top of it) for participants, readers, judges and myself! It is definitely hard to choose the "best" in the group, especially because we are doing everything through photographs and periodic written responses. So we're looking for participants that are good sports about a fun challenge that will expand your sewing abilities!

  1. ^^With SewCrafty! I cannot wait to watch this challenge unfold. I have to tell you all--give it a shot! I was on the fence about joining in last year and I am so glad I did--it helped me reach some big goals within my own sewing each week, and I learned so much about how much more I could accomplish as a seamstress. Good luck to everyone who enters! :-)

Made by a Fabricista: Comfy Palazoo Pants - Mommy and Me

Happy Saturday All! How have you been coping with this sudden change? 2020 is the year of adjustments and most of us will probably never forget due to the Covid-19. I am in the acceptance phase and the first 2 weeks were challenging for me to cope at first. I honestly adjusted around week 3 and have learned to cope and made the best out of it.

To get my daughter Arielle out of the house after not leaving for a month, I decided that I would make a few pieces that were on my to-make list and convince her to dress up so that I can shoot. She has been begging for a few palazzo pants since January and since we both have been home since March and I had no excuse, I just did it.

Arielle fell in love with the linen I used for my last Fabric Mart make in March and I had promised her that I would use the remaining linen in bright tan here to make her something.

I decided to use Simplicity 8605 palazzo pants to recreate a similar ready to wear pants she had.

It came out perfect and the size ext…

Made by a Fabricista: Flowers for spring

Hello all!  I hope this finds you well and healthy!  As I write this post, I am still WFH and still in need of COMFORT!  Know what I mean?  When I was drooling over FMs catalog and trying to pick out my fabric, I found myself ordering this gorgeous and soft double brushed poly.
You can see the fabric I used here: double-brushed-jersey-knit Here are some lovely choices too: Double Brushed Poly Choices  Have you tried this fabric yet?  I can't think of anything softer.

Of course then comes all sorts of dilemmas.  What do I make?  Maxi? Dress?  Tops?  Cardigan?  Pants?  I spent a good week just looking at this and finally came up with separates so I could have some ultimate comfort clothing.  I love the look of jumpsuits, but I remember back in the day getting undressed to use the restroom and that was appealing to me.  I settled for second best and made pants and two different tops.
Here's a link to the pants pattern I used: Pippa pants
And here are the two top patterns I …
