Fabric Mart's website is literally bursting with gorgeous fabrics these days, and while browsing the wool section I came across a wonderful pinstripe wool suiting, which I thought would be a great pairing with the Pulmu skirt (Named Patterns). McCall's 4970: the ivory eyelet skirt Hi everybody! Some fabrics just say summer, and cotton eyelet is definitely one of them in my opinion. For this month's post I played with a gorgeous ivory eyelet and made a bias skirt using McCall's 4970, a pattern with 3 lovely skirt options.

Hot Patterns Fast & Fabulous Fiesta Knit Top in red matte jersey Hi everybody, this month I decided to sew with a fabric I don't work enough with: matte jersey! Recently FM had some designer matte jersey and I knew it was the upscale quality as it is 100% rayon, not some ordinary synthetic kind. Originally I had planned a wrap dress or a maxi skirt, but I thought perhaps it would be too clingy and I don't feel like being constricted in a Spanx type underwear. Now that warm weather has finally arrived, I wanna walk and move! I went for a fun top that would showcase the drapey nature and the luscious color of this fine cloth: Hot Patterns 1142 Fast and Fabulous Fiesta Knit Top.

McCall's skirt pattern 7906 Hi everybody, As we are patiently waiting for warmer weather here in eastern Canada (and we are long overdue!) I made myself two skirts in a sand color palette, which is a color I really love.

The Jarrah Sweater (Megan Nielsen patterns) made with polartech knit fabric from Malden Mills Hi everybody, as a confirmed fabricaholic I'm always curious and interested in new fabric - I want to see it, touch it, own it and wear it! Recently I was intrigued by a new lot of Malden Mills sportswear fabric and decided to order some. I didn't exactly know what to expect in terms of weight, feel and drape as I don't sew as much with technical fabrics than with other types of apparel fabric. I wasn't disappointed when I received my package - those Malden Mills fabrics are great! Sometimes the pattern idea comes first and you find the right fabric for it, but in this project I let the fabric dictates the pattern choice. I've been wanting to make the Jarrah Sweater by Megan Nielsen since it came out last spring and this teal/turquoise Polartec double faced sweater tech knit was so perfect for it, plus it's a welcomed pop of colour in my wintery ward...

StyleArc Dotty Blouse made with a silk double georgette Hi everybody! I'm back this week on the blog with my first make in 2019: a silk georgette blouse! I just love to make my own silk tops and not have to pay big bucks for something similar in RTW, so I didn't hesitate a second when I saw this silk georgette on FM's new arrivals page not long ago - I knew it would be great paired with a pattern I love, the Dotty Blouse by StyleArc.

Poly/silk black velvet dress made with pattern New Look 6049 Hi everybody! I hope you are having wonderful Holidays, taking some time off and spending quality time with family and friends (and sewing too, of course)! For me, the Holidays also mean that there must be some sparkle in some way, somewhere, and when I saw this fantastic poly/silk velvet on FM's website I knew it was my ticket for that little black dress! I ordered this fabric as soon as I saw it and created this dress for my December 25th gig I had in a very nice hotel in the beautiful region of Charlevoix, Quebec. I was there to perform a set of jazzy Christmas classics, and the audience is mainly tourists, couples as well as families with kids; they all gather in the restaurant and enjoy the jazz while having a drink or having dinner by the fire. I thought a little black dress would be unfussy to wear, and would be chic without being too formal.

Liesl + co Classic Shirt in navy blue linen Hi everybody, blue is one of my favorite colours and I love all shades of blue - from pale sky blue to midnight blue and everything in between. For this month's post I was inspired by some blue fabrics on FM's website, and I made 3 shirts out of them! I've been wanting to try the Classic Shirt by Liesl + co since its release, so I grabbed some designer quality blue linen and gave it a try.

Pink and gray ponte Skylar Knit Hoodie (Sinclair Patterns) Hi everybody, it's Virginie from Jazz Couture and I hope you're doing well! On the blog today I'm showing you 3 interpretations of the Skylar Knit Hoodie (Sinclair Patterns). A while ago I selected some knit fabrics and I had envisioned wrap dresses, tops and maxi skirts. Well, Sinclair Patterns just released the Skylar Knit Hoodie and that totally changed my plans. I decided to go with my instinct, I bought the pattern and made 3 hoodies in a row. I'm so glad I did, they're just perfect for the changing weather we have here in eastern Canada!

Hi everybody, it's Virginie from Jazz Couture and I'm happy to share with you my 2 first fall makes! Deer and Doe Nenuphar Jacket The Nenuphar Jacket So for my first make I chose the Nenuphar pattern by Deer and Doe ! It is a light jacket that is perfect as a transitional, layering piece, and you could wear it with a jeans and t-shirt combo as I did, or over a straight dress or a pencil skirt. I made view A, which features 3/4 sleeves, front band and patch pockets with cutout details, and a two-piece back with a gathered bottom.

Marfy 6193 sundress made in a Hawaiian designer lawn print Hi everybody, it's Virginie from Jazz Couture and I'm back this month with 2 new dresses! The first one, Marfy 6193, had been on my bucket list since the release of their Summer 2018 collection. I had envisioned many fabrics to make it, but when FM listed some Hawaiian designer fabrics not long ago I jumped on this beautiful print; I knew it would be perfect for the sundress I had in mind!

Marfy 6194 in black designer linen Hi everybody, it's Virginie from Jazz Couture. Does it sometimes happen to you that you're inexplicably drawn to a particular pattern? Well, that's just what happened to me when I looked at the Marfy summer collection on Vogue's website. Marfy 6194 is the one dress pattern I kept looking at repeatedly, so I took the plunge and ordered it!

Dress #27 from Patrones no 382 caught my eye for its simplicity and ease of wear - which sums up my idea of summer dressing! Helen's Closet Blackwood cardigan in wool/bamboo jersey knit Hi everybody, it's Virginie from Jazz Couture and I'm excited to be part of the great Fabricistas team! Here in eastern Canada, so far spring has brought us a cocktail of cold, wind and rain and it's not time yet for skirts and dresses. What I need now is transitional pieces, so for my first make as a Fabricista I opted for a cardigan and tried Helen's Closet Blackwood cardigan . Many sewists have made it since its release in spring 2017, and they definitely wetted my appetite for this pattern as there are many lovely versions of it on the internet! Fabric: The fabric I selected for this cardi is a wonderful wool/bamboo/lycra jersey, it's a lightweight, fine gauge knit that was just perfect for what I had in mind, i.e. a layering spring piece that is not too heavy but provides a little extra warmth on chilly days (and boy did we have a lot of those lately!).
