Summer of T-Shirts Event

Quick Links:

Summer time is here! Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? If so, you need to check out this sewing event:

There are a lot of t-shirt patterns out there. The big 4 pattern companies have a number of different options and the same with the independent pattern companies. Everyone needs a basic t-shirt in their closet right? Well after you make the t-shirt for the tenth time, you might be sort of tired of it. So why not change it up a bit?

Over the past few months, I have seen so many creative sewers (professional and ameteur) pattern hack t-shirt patterns and create all new designs. I've seen them alter the pattern into something that you don't even realize was a shirt and I've seen sewers alter their fabric or combine unusual fabrics together to make something really interesting.

This summer, follow the Fabricista blog in our adventure of everything t-shirt. I have lined up some of your favorite sewing experts and sewing bloggers for the "Summer of T-Shirts." Every Monday we will post a new t-shirt project. The pattern hack may be very simple, other times it may be pretty extensive. But the great thing about this event is that it will be available forever! Some of you may take a break from sewing over the summer. So in the fall when you pick it back up, refer to our blog for all the posts.

If you sew along with us, share your finished garments with us! Use #FMSummerofTShirts on Facebook or Instagram when posting photos of your finished t-shirt hacks. You can use our ideas or if you have your own t-shirt hack idea, share it with us too! At the end of the summer, we will compile all the people that used the hashtag and you will be entered into a random drawing for $75 gift certificate to Fabric Mart!

The first event will go live on Monday, June 20. We will share some of our favorite t-shirt patterns. What are some of your favorite t-shirt patterns? Share your ideas with us!

Made by a Fabricista: Bold Beautiful Crepe Spring Look

Hello Gems! I'm so excited it’s finally Spring time! I've been inspired by color lately. It could be the beautiful flowers in bloom or the bright sunny days we’ve been having! Whatever it is, it has illuminated my creative senses and I’ve been feeling so inspired. So I just have to share with you my most recent make as a Fabricista with Fabric Mart using this bold red-orange and purple Crepe de Chine.  The fabric is a very fluid and drapey crepe fabric.  I’ve also noticed wide leg pants hitting the scene for Spring and I thought this crepe would make a great pair of wide leg pants. It’s a medium weight, opaque and falls so nicely against the skin.  The print is a leopard print with a pin stripe detail. In this red-orange and purple color combo this is a very bold and playful print but can still make for a sophisticated look so I wanted to give you a little bit of both of those aspects in the actual look. I'm not much for a jumpsuit but I love the fact that this two piece al

Made by a Fabricista: The Perfect Vacation Dress

You ever make one of those dresses you can’t wait to wear? Well this is the one. I’m prepping for an upcoming very overdue vacation and I wanted to make clothes that were cute, comfortable and functional.  This dress hit every mark for me and it’s all thanks to this stretch satin twill !   There aren’t enough words to describe this fabric and how much I love it.  When shopping for fabric online you have to look at composition and hope it’s true to form.  I have yet to be disappointed! This fabric has a bit of stretch which wasn’t needed for this dress but just made it even more comfortable.  It sews beautifully and moves with a bounce that’s perfect for this style. I made this dress using Vogue V1558 with lots of pattern alterations.   -Removed the seam from the front bodice by folding the bodice front pattern under 1.5” where the seam should be.  -Faced the neck back -Changed the style of the pleats -Added a back zipper -Added 10.5” to the width of the sleeve and remove 7” from the le

Made by a Fabricista: My first Summer dress for 2021, Axis Dress

Happy Friday, everyone! I am super excited to share about my Axis Dress by Papercut Patterns today. This dress was love at first sight! For me, longer skirt lengths of dresses and skirts are challenging since I am petite (5’ 1”), but this dress was so pretty that I had to make it. Now, let's talk about the fabric. I have been eyeing this Chambray Linen fabric for a while. Just seeing from a picture of it on their website, I knew that it is a high-quality fabric! I think they do a great job showcasing their fabric by putting multiple views. I think that is one of the reasons why I keep clicking “Add to cart” almost every time I go to their website, lol.  I debated between the grape and this orchid pink , but I am very happy that I chose orchid pink. Pink is one of my favorite colors, and I love that this fabric has white in it. I think it gives depth to the fabric.  There are many colors available. You can find them from here . I may have to get different colors while they are sti
